livealatimmy Posted May 7, 2010 Report Posted May 7, 2010 I'm a total newbie when it comes to 2 stroke quads but I just bought a 99 shee and it needs some serious work. I need to rebuild the motor since the one in it is locked up. The previous owner started to try to fix it himself but realized this was more than he wanted to deal with. It dosent have the cylinders are the head. I'm looking for some insight on which would be the best option for me. Buy a already built motor or get a cylinder and head and rebuild the one I have. Thanks for any help Quote
SNTBANSHEE Posted May 7, 2010 Report Posted May 7, 2010 There are 100 different ways to go but if you build your own motor you will know your machine top to bottom when your done. Quote

X2 A bought engine can be a crap shoot. If you trust the builder, that's one thing. Unless you were there when it went together, all you ahve to go on is what the builder lists on the build sheet, if you even get one. Plus building your own teaches you what goes into it. These are real simple engines. I've never touched a 2-stroke until a buddy helped me do the top end on mine. Now I don't have an issue with tearing it open. Quote

locogato11283 Posted May 8, 2010 Report Posted May 8, 2010 i would go with a 4mm woods ported motor. it will make good power down low and also be able to scream up top. keihin 35mm pwk, upp intakes, v force reeds, NOSS head, rocket pipes, +4 timing, 175 pounds of compression.. my brother had this motor built by FAST here on HQ a few years back. made 80hp. livealatimmy Posted May 8, 2010 Author Report Posted May 8, 2010 Wow. 80hp!!! That's impressive. Quote
