Hey everyone

Just to start off my name is Jeremy. Bought my first banshee last week. Its a 96 and has a K&N Filter and boost bottle. Otherwise its completly stock which is pretty sweet. Hard to find stock machines these days. Not looking to mod it much yet. Just make it a little simpler to work on and reliable.

Do banshees have a hard time starting in the cold? I live in northern minnesota. Went to start it up yesturday and i was having a hard time starting it. It was about 30-35 degrees out though. So hoping it doesnt have low compression and just needs a good carb clean. I cant get my hands on a good compression tester for a week or so. Gonna take off the carbs tomorrow and run through them. Figured I would remove the boost bottle while I am at it. Does the boost bottle replace anything when its installed? I havnt looked at it closely yet. I just dont want to take it off yet if theres something that needs to be reinstalled after the bottle is off since I did not get anything from the last owner.

It still has the stock jets so I am hoping i just need to rejet everything to help with the cold starts and what not.

I noticed the spark plugs were brand new too. the very tops of them were black but that was all the discoloration it had.

Another reason im worried about low compression now is that the guy i bought it off mentioned that the guy he bought it from would run 50:1 premix in the winter....that seems a bit extreme?? Doesnt idle either till its warmed up. Which again could be the damn cold weather. Suppose to be about 52 tomorrow so maybe that will make a difference in starting it.

But it seems to have tons of power still....never ridden one before so I dont know. But it flys lol

Thinking of running Maxima 927 but the place i went only had maxima superM. Is super m pretty good stuff still?

Figured I would run the 32:1 ratio.

Oh ya one more thing....do these bikes have a hard throttle? Its not bad but much harder then my honda rubicon and other atvs i have ridden lol.

I will see what happens after i tear the carb apart and give it a good cleaning.

But thats about all I can think of at the moment. Im sure I will be back here asking more questions tomorrow when I start tearing apart the carb =)

Super excited to start cleaning this up and go rip around on it!!

Ill get pictures up tomorrow too

that took about an hour to read haha. yeah most will say take the boost bottle off and it does replace a cross over tube that runs about 15 bucks. being a two stroke its going to have trouble starting and running in the cold its normal and the k&n filter is great for power but sucks in a lot of cold air making it a little harder. and yes 50 to 1 can be a little extreme

lol thats why I had to stop. I figured everyone would just look at the post and move on! I think I might toss a UNI filter on there but we will see. Looking at removing the tors system to make things easier and then ill get rid of that boost bottle and go from there. And possiably next weekend I should be able to get a good compression tester.

This guy really liked to lube shit up though thats for sure....seems like theres greese everywhere on this thing lol

well got the carbs out! havnt looked at them yet. there just sitting on the bench right now. should be able to tear them apart later today

Wheres a good place to get some accessories?

I need a new dipstick....this one ended up being cross threaded badly

and I wanna get a crossover tube so I can get rid of the boost bottle

and I since I have them off I might as well remove the tors system

I dont know what happend in the above post LOL, while the carbs are off, check the intake boots(the black rubber you removed the carbs from) for cracks and holes, The heavy boost bottle likes to rip those, Also while carbs are out check all the vent and overflow lines, if you like stuff new like me... I just replace them for a few bucks I think I bought helix, on older banshee's they tend to be brittle. than clean the carbs out real good, you'll also want to replace all fluids on the account you dont ever want to trust the guy you bought it from. best place to look for banshee part is on here, there are tons of sponser's that are willing to help, also just type banshee in google and you'll come up with alot of stuff, just stick to good companys.

well took my carb apart. doesnt look dirty on the inside which was nice

but i did notice one of the carbs didnt even bottom out so i know they werent very sinc at all.

and then after taking out the jets and cleaning them i noticed they were stock jets. 200main and looked like 25pilot jets. which there is a k&n filter so i should probably buy a few more jets.

But now for the bad part...on one of the carbs i wasnt able to get the pilot jet out. I dont think the kid i bought this from had any idea how to use a screw driver. or to properly tighten anything lol. My jet was all stripped out...not the threads but the notch where i would put the screw driver in was actually gone....so the top of the jet was almost smooth.

any ideas on how to get this jet out? gonna have to drill it out or something??? i have no idea lol.
