lincster Posted February 14, 2010 Report Posted February 14, 2010 My shifter won't return to center and is loose. I still have all of my gears and if shifts fine. I'm assuming the return spring is broken. How difficult is it to replace the spring and do you need to remove the clutch to do this? Quote
locogato11283 Posted February 14, 2010 Report Posted February 14, 2010 you will have to pull the clutch cover. the shift shaft will not come out unless you take the clutch basket off. it sounds like your spring is either worn out or came off. i would avoid starting the bike just in case its laying in the bottom of the clutch cover. MILO Posted February 14, 2010 Report Posted February 14, 2010 i wouldn't run the bike till you get in there and figure out what's going on. you don't want to be running it with pieces of a broken spring floating around. it's one of those jobs that will take 10x longer to get to it and put it back together than actually replace the broken spring. firebanshee Posted February 15, 2010 Report Posted February 15, 2010 Sounds like the stud that sticks between the return spring on the shift shat could have came loose or broke. I had one break one time but the broken piece came out of the case easy.It is not a blind hole the piece can vibrate and fall into your trans. Quote
