cousinsracing Posted November 24, 2009 Report Posted November 24, 2009 i just bought my bike and it wont idle. it has keihin pwk 35mm airstrikers. I tore apart the carbs yesterday, cleaned them up and blew out the jets with compressed air. The idle screw on the right carb was broken off and it looked like someone just screwed it in so that it wouldnt fall out. so the carbs were synched, but the right slide didnt go down nearly as far as the left. i evened up the screws and re-synched the carbs but it still wont idle. I didnt have much time to mess with it today, but do i just need to screw in the idle screws more or is something else maybe going on? thanks Quote
WantABanshee Posted November 24, 2009 Report Posted November 24, 2009 ttt we wanna get this thing idling.. Do you guys always choke it before you kick it? How many times do you choke it? I'm afraid we fouled the plugs Quote
sleeper06 Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 What jets are in there now with mods ,pilot might be off 4 your set up Quote
WantABanshee Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 we need some tips. we worked on it for hr and half and couldn't do any good. The idle screws do nothing and we even adjusted the caps and did nothing. What does it need? We already blew out the pilot jets. Think we still have a clog? Quote
sleeper06 Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 If your idle screws do nothing good chance your rich on the pilots, again ,what jets are in there for what set up do you need help Quote
WantABanshee Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 its a 400cc big bore powervalve bike... I'm unsure on the jet sizes but its got those 35 carbs on them Can you lean down the pilot by the air screw? Would that have any other affect on the mixture throughout the rest of the rpm or does the air screw only affect the low to 1/4 throttle?? Quote
cousinsracing Posted November 25, 2009 Author Report Posted November 25, 2009 it has 145 mains and im not sure about the size on the pilots...does it say on them i didnt see any writing on them? Quote
jbooker82 Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 Yes the pilots will have numbers on them. I bought a set of metal idle scews from fast for my pwks. I also had to shorten the spring so I could turn the scews in a little farther. You dont adjust the Idle by adjusting the cable adjusters. That is the half ass way, do it right and get some new adjuster scews. http://www.farmandsandtoys.com/partdetail.asp?partid=119 I would also highly recomend you getting a carb sync tool. It makes getting your carbs synced dead on easy. http://www.farmandsandtoys.com/partdetail.asp?partid=59 Quote
WantABanshee Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 we will have to get some of those metal adjusters... But the idle screw adjustment does nothing... Does that mean it has to be too rich like said above? Quote
sleeper06 Posted November 27, 2009 Report Posted November 27, 2009 You need to try 45 or lower pilot if there A/S I would also start off at 170 main and work from there sync tool is a must Quote
locogato11283 Posted November 27, 2009 Report Posted November 27, 2009 we need to know what jets and a complete lost of your mods, elevation and temperature. Quote
