sheesFast89 Posted October 25, 2009 Report Posted October 25, 2009 I was riding my shee the other day and it dropped a cylinder so I figured I had fouled a plug. I put two new plugs in and had the same problem, it would start up fine and run on the right cylinder really strong and the left one would just fire every now and then spiratically. I removed both carbs and cleaned them. Put them back on and nothing changed. I swapped plug wires and still no difference. Both cylinders have good compression. If I pull the plug from the problem cylinder after letting it run for a minute the plug is perfectly clean and bone dry. It seems like a fuel problem to me but I dont know what else to try. Anybody have any suggestions? Quote
White97Banshee Posted October 25, 2009 Report Posted October 25, 2009 I wouldn't know what exactly is causing the problem but the way I troubleshoot is pulling things apart till I find something that's not correct.. I would start at the carburetor. Soak it in the carb cleaner dip you can buy. Maybe pull the bowl off and check the jets and see if they're clogged. Make sure the reeds flex a little (maybe they're sealed shut somehow)? Hope that helps a little. Quote

Removed and cleaned the jets, and fully cleaned the internals of the carbs with carb cleaner. The reeds all seemed fine. I am not sure what next to look into. Quote

Since dune season was so close, I just took it into the shop instead of fooling around with it and risk not having my bike ready. They synced and adjusted the carbs and it now runs great! I was stumped too! Quote
slamed91si Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 try unpluging the tors box under the tank if you still have it i had the same prob and that worked for me Quote

White97Banshee Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 So the carbs are perfect and you put new plugs in and the reeds are fine.. Pull the plug out and check if it's even getting spark. I believe in order to do that you pull both plugs out and kick it a few times and look at the end of the spark plug when you kick it and see if the spark jumps at the tip. Give that a try and let us know how it goes. Quote

I switched the plug wires to see if the problem moved to the other side and it didn't so I believe that eliminates the coil being the problem. Quote
sheesFast89 Posted October 26, 2009 Author Report Posted October 26, 2009 Compression test time. Compression is about 120 on both Quote
KlotzBanshee Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 I would do a leak down test. And check out the fuel supply, from the fuel lines at the carbs all the way to the tank, fuel valve, cap vent, everything. Quote
sheesFast89 Posted October 30, 2009 Author Report Posted October 30, 2009 Alright guys today I pulled the carb back off and took out my reed cage to ispect double check that none of them where stuck. The reed looked fine and all of them moved. I put it back together and started it ran on both cylinders for about 15 seconds and then dropped the cylinder again. I can't figure it out. Quote
duner Posted October 31, 2009 Report Posted October 31, 2009 (edited) Try squirting a little gas in the cyl. or into the carb with the throttle open. If it hits, then it is a fuel issue. Edited October 31, 2009 by duner Quote

sheesFast89 Posted November 1, 2009 Author Report Posted November 1, 2009 I I have determined it is a spark problem. The cylinder would not fire even with starting fluid sprayed directly in the cylinder and I am getting unburned fuel out of that exhaust pipe. I am planning on replacing my coil and seeing if that fixes my problem. Quote
