Lower Steering Bearing removal?!?!?!

I'm Losing my mind! I cant figure out how to remove the lower steering stem bearing.

 

How do you get it out??????

Pull the seal out and under the seal is a hex nut you have to get it out, then the bearing should come out. You may be able to use a screwdriver and a hammer to get it broke loose.

After pulling the nut, use a socket to fit in there and hammer it out.

i modified a large bolt that the head would fit in the hex nut that holds the bearing in. weld a nut to the bolt then use the head of the bolt to turn out the inverted hex that holds the bearing in. it was a cinch

I'm still not having any luck getting it out... I'll try again and get back.

 

Anyone know the size of the hex so I can find something to work?

I think I'll need to put some heat on it. I'm going to let it soak overnight and try again tomorrow.

weld a nut on to the bolt. hit it with a little heat then put an impact to it. i should come right out. good luck

Dead thread revival!

 

So I welded a nut to a bolt and dropped it down and impacted the crap out of it without any luck.....

 

Does anyone know how I could get this out???? Tips Hints

 

Also can someone confirm that this is a standard or reverse threaded nut?

I'm sure it's standard thread. Also did you try soaking it in WD40 or PB Blaster..

Heat up the frame around the nut and take some wax and let the wax melt into the threads and let cool to room temp it should come right out sounds funny but use thatr trick on the rockcrushers ALL the time and works great good luck

you need to go to a fastener store or place that sells bolts, not the local hardware though. get a 30mm bolt(the hex) bout 3 or 4 inches long and 2 nuts that fit the threads, back them up together and you should be good. like the guy before said spray pb blaster on there for a day or 2, then use a large adjustable wrench and pipe for leverage. i remember when i replaced my first one i had no idea how to do it i went to the local yamaha dealer asked them how to go about it they told me there was no bearing there cuz the copmuter didnt show it, i ended up going to my local fastener store and pickin that nut(s) and bolt up. its always in my tool box and ppl are always askin me why i have it in there.... ok i just looked at ur pics again the bolt you buy has to have threads up to the bolt head.

just like everyone says. I used a stud with a nut that was 1 1/8 , welded a nut to both sides and then used an impact to take it out. Just did it last night and worked great.
