Mjv420 Posted August 13, 2009 Report Posted August 13, 2009 My mid-pipes and silencers are getting really hot after a good run up the road and back. If I can remeber correctly on my old setup mid pipes and silencers were always warm after long trips, not on fire like it is now. I did put a new o-ring on the spout running from the impeller out of the case and also installed a billet impeller, radiator & cap is off my old quad which I never had any problems with. I can touch the cylinders with my hand and they are not as hot as the exhaust is getting, it's got me worried and I have not rode it since the last run. Possible of a leaky o-ring in the head? No anti-freeze is pretruding from the head... Quote
jbooker82 Posted August 14, 2009 Report Posted August 14, 2009 Since the exhaust pipes have 1200 deg exhaust gasses blowing through them I would imagen that the exhaust would be hot. Quote
slopoke Posted August 15, 2009 Report Posted August 15, 2009 if you are reffering to your old stock pipes they are thicker than aftermarket. Quote
TurboBanshee420 Posted August 17, 2009 Report Posted August 17, 2009 they also have a baffle plate on the biggest part of the pipe with a 3/4" tube...plus they are about 10lbs heavier, so it takes a while to get those hot. Aftermarket pipes are thin like said, but are free flow so the gas moves quickly to the exit while still retaining over 800 degrees of heat. Makes for some badly burned silencer packing. Quote
