I was testing the resistance on my firing coil 2day. . . .the way i did it was, i removed the orange and brack wires then put positive on the orange side of the coil and negative on the other side. . It tested 0.4ohm wich was in speck. Then to test the secondary coil i put negative on the black side of coil and positve on the left cylinder plug lead and i dont get any reading? Its sapose2 be 4.7 to 7.1 kohms. . Help any1?

Hey , i know its the way to test it in the shop manual , but i got a brand new coil and for some reason i dont get any reading from either the positive or negative to any of a spark plug wire, so idk if it's the good way to look at it, i think maybe for the secondary coil you'd have to check the continuity with both spark plug wire, but im really not so sure about this , but mine give a reading between the spec when i do that and its brand new from yamaha dealer. My friend had the same problem testing his coil so thats why i looked on mine . Im pretty sure there is power and ground entering the first coil and then transferring with a magnetic field to the second coil which would make the spark but idk why in the shop manual they do like you said. If anyone knows better how to test the secondary coil please let us know ! :)

You got it. We noted and have posted many times, the typo that Clymer did in their manuals. Primary is from blade connector to blade connector and secondary is from plug wire to plug wire. Remember to remove the plug caps and test separately. They are known for failures . Remember also to unclip the wires completely from the coil and test "ONLY" the coil when you get a bad reading. Wires shit out commonly, the coil itself rarely fails.
