slopoke Posted July 22, 2009 Report Posted July 22, 2009 Ok guys I am in the process of building a 4mill with herrs full drag port. Never had or rode a 4mill before so really don't know what to expect. Can I run a lock up on a stock transmission? It has only the shift star mod, atf fluid, pancake brg and cleaned up the drum a little but nothing else. Do I need a lock up ( i run asphalt drag) and other than a cover what do I need? Will a stock clutch hold a 4 mill? I do have a steel carrier not aluminum. Thanks Quote
bansheeseat$$ Posted July 22, 2009 Report Posted July 22, 2009 you can run a lock up on a stock tranny seup but it is abit harder to shift in high rpms do to the weights pushing against the hub.I ran one without a overide for 3 years and didn't have any problems other then missing shifts when it was hot.oh and with a lock up a stock clutch will work fine,I have a stock one in my cub for 3 years also and it still looks almost new. slopoke Posted July 22, 2009 Author Report Posted July 22, 2009 so does this mean i don't need to run it with stock tranny Quote
firebanshee Posted July 22, 2009 Report Posted July 22, 2009 It will be hard to shift at full power with a lock-up and no override trans, an override is one of the best mods you can do to your bike, you should use a lock-up since you will get alot of traction on asphault putting alot of load on that clutch with that new motor. Quote
slopoke Posted July 22, 2009 Author Report Posted July 22, 2009 where is the best place to get one and how much $$$$ also can i ride normal with an overide when not racing? Quote
firebanshee Posted July 23, 2009 Report Posted July 23, 2009 where is the best place to get one and how much $$$$ also can i ride normal with an overide when not racing? Make sure that you get a dunable override and you won't have any problems, non dunable overrides take no backloading at all and are mainly for racing but dunable overrides you can ride normal without having to pull in on the clutch when you let off the throttle. There are guys on here that sell them one of them should chime in, i had mine done at Redline Racing here in Oregon. Quote
2 Wild Racing Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 you don't need a lock up unless you put out a 100 hp are better override and r1 clutchs would be good i run a 4 mill on pavement Quote
dajogejr Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 Run a 1-4 manual 5 and 6 override for pavement, unless you have a big motor, then just get a 1-5 override cut. Run a lockup as well. You'll need a stock shiftstar for the override, once you mod a stocker you can't use it in an override. I disagree with 2 wild, if you're gonna run an override, get a lockup. Even with streetbike clutch setups, I've seen overrides smoke a clutch with no lockup. Quote
00tbanshee Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 since kevin is doing your motor talk to him.he sells the slingshot lockup which is nice cause you can run your stock cover and the 1-5 n down dunable overides he sells are really nice as well.spend the extra money and get those 2 and you will be very happy Quote
dajogejr Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 I would rather have a 1-5 like I do now. If he's not too big of a guy, He can probably gear it to stretch 5th out to the traps. Kevin can make it rip.... Some guys just like the 6th gear. And you can't cut a 5th gear override and leave 6th in. I have the slingshot and 1-5 and am very happy with it. Quote
