what is it, piston slap? wrist pins and bearing werent in great shape, and a PITA to get out and back in, Jeff from FAST said that could be it cuz its not allowing the piston to float properly......either way im not running it again till i find out

ya,,,i can hear it,,,after spending all that money u should have made sure the bearings and wrist pins were tight also,,,hate to see the motor go bad man,,,,,,,

shut that thing off and take it apart it's broked..that always sucks....

Ohhi made sure they were tight, so tight when I got them I had to beat the pins out with a hammer. Hahahha it took me like a hour to get the pins out the pistons and then back in. Even after I oiled them down. I guess Ima tear back into it and see what's going on. Im lost!

flywheel tight? crank bearing? waterpump bearing? my buddy has a similar knock and we're still trying to figure it out a season of hard riding later..

the crazy thing iz when I first kicked it over it purred like a kitten. No noise no knock no nothing. I let it heat cycle a few times and then took it down the road for a wide open run. That's when the knocking started.

have you taken the clutch cover off yet? I had somthing simular and it turned out to be the kicker shaft gear. the circlip poped off the gear in between the kicker and the basket and the idler gear was grinding down the rivets on the clutch basket

will do today. I'll double check everything

When my friends bike had a similar knock, we decided that it was piston slap.. we rebuilt the top end with new pistons and bore, and just to be sure it wasnt a crank issue, he bought a brand new hot rods crank as well.. After being broke in correctly, the knock came back.. He now rides the shit out of it, and nothing ever let go, but its quite annoying when you can hear a knocking sound over the t-5 pipes...

Yea well im too anal about stuff like that, I cant stand it, and even though nothing has went boom on your buddies motor yet, it will.....if its knocking something aint right......

You def need to ship that shit to someone for a clearance check, collapsed skirts from deto

Im afraid ill have to do that, im going to tear it back down one more time... and double check, thn if it still does it, off to Jeff it goes, who ships motors and about how much....

couple heat cycles and then a wide open run isn't a good way to break in a motor..

You probably made the bore go out of round.

I let it heat up and down a few times, then rode around the yard barely off idle for a few minutes probally 5-10 mins, then took it down the road.... if you followed my other thread, parts werent brand new, I bought crank, cylinders and pistons, rings etc from "Kubitza" on here with about 10 hrs on the motor, shoudlve already been broke in....Jeff said motor ran super strong...... unless I put wrong pistons in wrong cylinders.... or would that matter? Ive always been told not to mix them up after its ben ran for a while, that the pistons/rings kinda wear to THAT particular cylinder.

Yes.. that may indeed be your problem... Usually people label the pistons when they plan to use them again.. Unfortunitly without doing so its pretty hard guess it..

I was assuming you have a fresh bore and new rings.. since you said you were doing "heat Cycles"

Either way I think you may have came to your problem..

man I hope so, He just sent pistons in a seperate box and didnt label them so I had no way of telling, But I am gonna try to swap em around before I send Jeff my motor, he doesnt seem to think its piston slap or anything cylinder related from listening to the video :( im sure its probally 100 or more to ship one huh? the heat cycle I only did to seat gaskets and retourque, sorry for the confusion.....

Thanks

Brad
