sandman Posted May 8, 2009 Report Posted May 8, 2009 Hey do any of you use any type of sealer on the outside of the crank seals? If so what do you use(yamabond,RTV,ect...................) Thanks, Bill I've changed crank seals twice, once in an old engine when they failed & in a brand new engine after having the crank welded & did not use any sealant on the seal itself & have never had any problems with those installations. I do however put a film of grease on the inside of the seal where the crank protrudes through. Quote
Bill Posted May 8, 2009 Author Report Posted May 8, 2009 Yea that's what I was thinking, the last thing I want is to put the case halves together and have a fuckin leak around the seals. Quote
BellicoseBanshee Posted May 8, 2009 Report Posted May 8, 2009 I apply a thin layer of HondaBond on the crank seals as well, and I always use new seals. I also pack the inside with white lithium grease. I have never had any problems with my seals. My buddy does the same thing... Quote
sheefreak Posted May 8, 2009 Report Posted May 8, 2009 I also use some grease on the inside of the seal, but no sealant on the outside. Have never had any problems. Quote
