Black01Shee Posted April 18, 2009 Report Posted April 18, 2009 Well i was riding today and out of nowhere my rear skidplate nailed a huge rock but everything seemed ok so i kept riding. About 10 minutes later i started to hear some metal clanking from the rear so i stop to check it out. The 2 of the 4 skidplate mounts ripped off and the skidplate was kinda danglin and thats what the noise was. So i figure no big deal ill order a new skidplate when i get home. I kept riding hittin jumps and stuff then all of a sudden the chain starts binding up, it gets really tight and then really loose. I get home and put the rear end up in the air and it looks like i must have damaged the bearings and carrier i think once the bearings went the rear sprocket started to wear into the carrier. What should i do i think im gonna need to replace the carrier and bearings how hard is it to do anyone have any links to step by step directions? thanks for any help Heres a vid so you guys can see what im talking about http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pfAadEhsvZo Quote

Burt Reynolds Posted April 19, 2009 Report Posted April 19, 2009 (edited) I have re-used some horrible carriers. I have had axles i had to beat out with a BFH,and it took forever. And i actualy had to use a dremel tool,to cut the outer races of the bearings out, then knock them out. sometimes it can be a horrible bitch. Edited April 19, 2009 by Burt Reynolds Quote

Judging by the video you can see that wear caused by the rear sprocket you think ill be able to reuse it? Quote
banman350 Posted April 19, 2009 Report Posted April 19, 2009 Judging by the video you can see that wear caused by the rear sprocket you think ill be able to reuse it? its not the outside that matters its the inside, if its smooth its good if its not get a new one Quote
Black01Shee Posted April 19, 2009 Author Report Posted April 19, 2009 its not the outside that matters its the inside, if its smooth its good if its not get a new one Wont that scuff on the carrier allow dirt/water to get inside? Quote
banman350 Posted April 19, 2009 Report Posted April 19, 2009 Wont that scuff on the carrier allow dirt/water to get inside? as long as the seal fits good and mounts flush all the way around you should be good Quote
Burt Reynolds Posted April 20, 2009 Report Posted April 20, 2009 (edited) It doesnt look that bad in the video, but i would have to see it up close. Even if the inside is scraped up,i have smoothed them out before and used them. This probably isnt optimal, but it will get you buy. Even if the seal doesnt fit perfectly, you can run without the seal to just get buy if you really want to ride. But this is in no way a permanent fix,and your bearings will wear faster. Carriers are a dime a dozen though, and if you are in the least bit worried i would just buy another carrier Edited April 20, 2009 by Burt Reynolds Quote
