big papa Posted March 21, 2009 Report Posted March 21, 2009 (edited) Looking to buy a banshee soon. I am looking at a bone stock 2004 tomorrow. I had a 2002 raptor for a few years, but never a 2 stroke. What should I look for when checking out this Banshee? Also, some folks say I should just get another Raptor, that it better matches the desert riding I will be doing. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance... Bill Edited March 21, 2009 by big papa Quote

Not much else I can think of, you prolly allready know the basics to look for. Im sure you'll know if its running good after a ride. Quote
vulvafan537240 Posted March 21, 2009 Report Posted March 21, 2009 also do a compression check. it should be around 120psi depending on your elevation and both cylinders should be within 5psi of each other. obviously inspect the frame for any bends or broken welds. also check the carrier bearings by getting the rear wheels off the ground (i prop the swinger up on a cynder block)and try to rock the axle front to back to see if theyre shot. big papa Posted March 22, 2009 Author Report Posted March 22, 2009 Thanks for the inputs. I bought the stock 04 for $2400. Will need rear tires soon, but that seems to be all... time to ride. Quote
RollinRhino Posted March 22, 2009 Report Posted March 22, 2009 The newer Raptors are a lot of fun. For my money though I'll stick to the low cost of owning a two stroke. Quote
locogato11283 Posted March 22, 2009 Report Posted March 22, 2009 for desert riding i would pick a yfz450 over either of them. Quote
peterlocal22 Posted March 22, 2009 Report Posted March 22, 2009 welcome to the hq and post some pics of your new banshee if you get a chance. peter Quote

Thanks in advance... Bill nvermind tht raptor man.If something goes wrong with a banshee it's an easy fix all the way around the bike.No complicated valves and timing and all that bullshit on them.Banshees are a simple 2 cylinder motor with nothing to them but can gain an unbelievable amount of HP out of em.A 4 stroke on the other hand...a few hundred in mods isn't gonna get you far lol. When you go look at it make sure you tell the guy to not fire it up before you get there. That way you can see how easy it starts when it's cold. Also bring a compression gauge.Test the compression in the cylinders. You want at least 125psi.Anything below that is probably ridable but will cost you some new rings down the road. The rest is simple, like you would look at a car.listen, check for leaks yada yada.Fire it up let it idle and warm up for 10 minutes why you guys bullshit then take it for a ride. Good luck man, hope it works out..My father in law had a pretty bad ass warrior then he rode a banshee,He went and bought a banshee then sold his warrior...Needless to say he likes 2 strokes now. big papa Posted March 22, 2009 Author Report Posted March 22, 2009 Shook it down in the desert this morning. Every start 1st kick!! I weigh 280, so I need to adjust the suspension, but holy crap does this quad move. I do need to start looking around for rear tires suited for sand and rocks. OT: Ran over a snake, so I went back to get a pic. Soon as I turned off the Banshee I heard the rattle and bailed, I think the snake and I were both freaking out... BP uber stock... Quote
