DannysZ28 Posted March 20, 2009 Report Posted March 20, 2009 I have not had a chance to tear it down yet but i noticed a puddle of gear oil under the front sprocket. I noticed some drops coming off the little white plastic piece (what ever that is). Im new here and i just bought an 02 and found the problem while riding today. Is there some kind of oring behind that plastic piece or do you think it would be coming from behind the sprocket. Quote
LS1Inferno Posted March 20, 2009 Report Posted March 20, 2009 that little white thing is the neutral switch cover, it just covers the back of the shift drum,, i t can be leaking form there of the seal or the output shaft. IDK if there is an o ring there i dont remember i just silicone mine. Quote
1996dragshee Posted March 20, 2009 Report Posted March 20, 2009 check the little oring seal on the shift shaft. If its leaking from there just tip the bike on its side.Use a wood screw to pull the old seal out and pack a little gasket sealant around the new one and press it back in place Quote
DannysZ28 Posted March 22, 2009 Author Report Posted March 22, 2009 The leak turned out being the seal on the sprocket shaft. How hard is it to change and what is involved. Do i have to take the motor off or split the case. Quote
sleeper06 Posted March 22, 2009 Report Posted March 22, 2009 I never tried it but dont see any thing on seal itself that would prevent you from pulling it.I have never personally heard of anyone doing that either, but most shit that comes through here is blown up already Quote
DannysZ28 Posted March 22, 2009 Author Report Posted March 22, 2009 Do you happen to know the part number for that seal or do i have to get a whole kit? I hope i can put it in with out having to split the case. Maybe someone will ring in that knows for sure. Thanks Quote
sleeper06 Posted March 22, 2009 Report Posted March 22, 2009 I have put in alot of them but ita usually a full motor job,I do know the seal isnt keyed into the case in any way,its just sitting there. You can get just that seal if you want.Look at it this way pull it if you cant do it splitting was innevitable anyway Quote
DannysZ28 Posted March 22, 2009 Author Report Posted March 22, 2009 I guess you are right about that. It sure would be nice if i can get it in that way. Thanks for the info Quote
locogato11283 Posted March 22, 2009 Report Posted March 22, 2009 tip up the bike. take off the front sprocket. you should be able to use a flat blade screw driver to pop the old seal out.. then put the new seal in and tap into place.. you dont have to split the case to get that seal out. Quote
Onesickcrewcab Posted March 22, 2009 Report Posted March 22, 2009 That seal can be replaced without splitting the cases. Pull your front sprocket off. There is a metal collar behind it that can slide off. Its what the seal is around. Pull that out and use a pick to pull the old seal out. The factory part number is 93102-35369-00. Put some sealer one the outside of the new seal and slide it in there. Quote
DannysZ28 Posted March 27, 2009 Author Report Posted March 27, 2009 I put the new seal in and used some sealant around it. The other seal had not went bad, It just looked like it was pushed out. I hope it was not from pressure in the tranny. I am changing the gear oil and was wondering how much does the manual say to put back in it? (crank case oil capacity) Quote
