locogato11283 Posted March 7, 2009 Author Report Posted March 7, 2009 pulled the motor. shook it a little and out pops the fuckin clip.. :: after some bullshit and a couple phone calls to BBIII, i got it back together. just wont start up. fired up once but died. is it normal on a 4 stroke to not see spark when you check it grounded to the outside of the cylinder? i think i have a spark issue. got furl, got air, but didnt get spark on the outside of the cylinder. causes on this overly complicated big carbed 450's?? TJScott Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 it should spark, but alot of times, like with an ltz400 i worked on, your spring clips can get stuck and the exhaust valve hangs open. make sure its not doing that. Quote

locogato11283 Posted March 7, 2009 Author Report Posted March 7, 2009 furl? fuel.. i was typing at the speed of light.. yea, i figured it should have spark. it did fire once, so im thinking something isnt quite right. i fuckin hate working on 4 strokes. Quote
BB3 Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 Check for a loose ground or something tyler. Quote
locogato11283 Posted March 7, 2009 Author Report Posted March 7, 2009 Check for a loose ground or something tyler. ground is good. its underneath the clutch cable bracket on top of the motor. is there a better spot? i know its tight. shouldnt it being right on the motor be good enough? Quote
locogato11283 Posted March 7, 2009 Author Report Posted March 7, 2009 fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuckkk.... i havent tried it today at all. ill head out later to see whats up. its highly irritating though. Quote
BB3 Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 If you want i could probally run up there tomorrow and check it out, just let me know. Quote
speed-racer Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 Run a ground strap from the battery ground to your engine and then see if you have spark. If not, you have ignition problems. Quote

If not, you have ignition problems. the bike ran fine before i took it apart. i seriously doubt in the few hours i had rebuilding it the ignition went out.. i mean, thats not likely right? i didnt have any starting issues beforehand, so theres no reason that it just sitting there something wouldve gone bad. Bobby, ill give it a try here in a few and let you know something.. Quote
TJScott Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 NO, that completely eliminates the purpose of grounding, it does not work by just sticking it somewhere on your engine like a cylinder or something. take off your chain cover, stick the ground wire there, and stick a bolt through it, whether you have a chain cover or not thats where it supposed to go. The cylinder and head are nowhere near conductive enough. The magnesium valve cover obviously wont work either. Quote

The magnesium valve cover obviously wont work either. its bolted in the same spot it came from the factory, where the bracket holds the clutch cable on. i didnt move it. its not on the cylinder or head. its bolted to the back of the case. the cable isnt even long enough to get to the chain cover bolt. Snopczynski Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 If I remember right you had the flywheel off right? Investigate that, check the stator, pickup, and the flywheel, make sure the keyway is all good too. If you caused the problem, then this would more than likely be the area you should be checking out.
