Misssppelllleddd Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 What are the advantages to having a pancake bearing on a clutch? I heard that it helps keep the ball from welding to the rod but is there any other advantage? Quote
docjcwatson Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 It is also good for making engagement smoother. If you are debating on whether or not to get one. JUST DO IT! Splitting cases to get the rod out is by no means a fun task. It is a $50 little piece of insurance. Why not protect your investment? Quote

Well said there is no ifs ands buts about it just get one and install it. If you have disassembled your clutch and removed your clutch basket before than it shouldn't take you long to install. When you do get one order the one from cascade i've heard there the easiest to adjust. I got a BOSS pusher which works well but was just a pain in the ass to adjust and figure out. Quote

Bansh-eman Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 I can tell you right now that with the Hinson 8 Plate and the cascade pancake you will not be able to adjust your clutch and have enough threads to tighten the nut down. You do not have a long enough set screw. I purchased 5 extra set screws when I got mine, but I am not longer in the states so I can't send you one of my extras. What you will need to do is pull the set screw out and take it to a fastener specialty store like Fastnal or Grainger. Have them sell you a few set screws longer then that one. I don't remember the length off the top of my head but I'm sure you can figure it out. They have a tool to messure the screws diameter and thread pitch. Make sure its the hardened metal. They will be black and look indentical to the set screw with the pusher, only differance will be the length. It's a metric screw so if they try to sell you a standard size it is incorrect. Quote
NYUK Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 cheap insurance is an understatement. i have bought 10 bikes in the last year with welded balls. skill level to install pancake is semi talented. skill level to remove motor split cases, sometimes beating the rod out of your tranny shaft, well lets just say it`s a lil more complicated. bansheefreak Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 the one jeff sells is the best one... cant beat the fact it has a allen head... got one on my shee works great... thanx jeff... Quote
CBAIER1206 Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 Ditto...went to the dunes a couple of weeks ago for a 4 day trip and on the first day my buddy's bike went down because he welded the ball and rod together, ruined his whole trip. Needless to say when we got home, I went right out and got one! Quote
