MeanSheeMachine Posted December 27, 2008 Report Posted December 27, 2008 Well that about sums it up. I built it all up and now it is leaking coolant from the exhaust side on the base gasket. Ive never seen this before. I know on the factory cylinders it has that rubber plug on the bottom but i dont see anything like that on the cub cylinders. Any suggestions? Why is coolant getting down there? Quote

locogato11283 Posted December 27, 2008 Report Posted December 27, 2008 oh snap. i agree with dave. what did you do with those 4 short plugs? did you even put them in? Quote
sleeper06 Posted December 27, 2008 Report Posted December 27, 2008 I had similar problem on the first cub i ever did, i used pipe dope to seal plugs, use some three-bond case sealer and it will be OK Quote
dajogejr Posted December 27, 2008 Report Posted December 27, 2008 Yep..or RTV. And they need to be flush with the bottom of the cylinder as well, if not a little bit turned in or countersunk. Quote
MeanSheeMachine Posted December 27, 2008 Author Report Posted December 27, 2008 Well I don't have the plugs for the bottom of that I didn't notice that they went there. Where can I get them? Any ideas? Quote
dajogejr Posted December 27, 2008 Report Posted December 27, 2008 Take the cylinder to a hardware store. I believe they're 1/4 NPT pipe thread, not 100% certain. Yeah, you need those plugs. Quote
Dave I. Posted December 27, 2008 Report Posted December 27, 2008 1/4" pipe thread plugs. 1/4-18 You can get them at Orchard supply if they have on of those where you live. You need them to be flat or counter sunk as Dave was saying so look for the allen head ones or some have a straight blade screw driver slot also. You need 4 of them. Quote
lt1bird Posted December 27, 2008 Report Posted December 27, 2008 You will need to grind down the heads on the plugs just a tad before you install them. Just did this on mine. Test fit them without sealer first..... Without grinding the plugs will stick past seal surface!!! Optionally I guess I could have tapped the holes just a tad deeper...your choice... use a streight edge to check that they are counter sunk. Quote
dajogejr Posted December 27, 2008 Report Posted December 27, 2008 I didn't have to grind them down on mine, and they have a hex head to install them. As said...check fitment. Quote
00tbanshee Posted December 28, 2008 Report Posted December 28, 2008 the ones i installed hell if you keep turning them they will go the whole way through.i wish they would of just did with out them when the made the cubs Quote
dajogejr Posted December 28, 2008 Report Posted December 28, 2008 That is how they're cast Butch...not too many options as to how they're made. Quote
lt1bird Posted December 29, 2008 Report Posted December 29, 2008 Why do they put them in? Just for the casting process? Ya, mine were not tapped to deep...caused me some pain.... Quote
dajogejr Posted December 29, 2008 Report Posted December 29, 2008 Yep...they are put on for the casting....that's it. Quote
