bansheefreak89 Posted September 27, 2008 Report Posted September 27, 2008 anyone know where a decent priced place is to get some stuff polished like jugs cases Quote
sheerider1026 Posted September 28, 2008 Report Posted September 28, 2008 how about powdercoating them?? i sent you a reply PM.. let me know what you think?? would look great without the hassle of keeping it polished.. with powdercoat you can just wipe it with a rag or hit it with the powerwasher when you clean your bike.. easy to keep looking nice.. later, gary Quote
XxMeltIcexX Posted September 28, 2008 Report Posted September 28, 2008 Polish is way better lol, send them to cascade. Quote
GleasmJA Posted September 28, 2008 Report Posted September 28, 2008 (edited) I think a good 50/50 mix, or close to it, looks the best. Say powder on the cases and jugs... polish the rest. But that is my opinion. And i haven't got that far yet. Waiting for the time that i have to go back into the motor to do that.. Edited September 28, 2008 by GleasmJA Quote
projectcrawler Posted September 28, 2008 Report Posted September 28, 2008 Do it yourself. Check youtube for polishing aluminum. It is actually pretty easy. Especially if you use a drill or wizzer with a sandpaper attachment. http://forum.caswellplating.com/showthread.php?t=1755 This link gives a good idea how to polish. Once i started, if i had a bunny i would have polished it! Start with your levers for practice, and go larger. Quote
dirtfreak Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 polishing is very simple just takes a lot of time.I use a right angle die grinder with 3m scotch brite pads or sand paper 3m pads to get the paint or coating off.then wet 400 sand paper then wet 800 sand paper till all the little swirls ad scratches are gone, the use wet 1000 till it looks good.after that buff buff buff till you get a mirror image.the thing about polishing aluminum is every time you buff it it just keeps looking better.like after your done and a week later buff it keeps looking better and better.I've done many street bike frames and wheels etc.not hard to do just takes time.the more time you spend the better it looks. acfine Posted September 30, 2008 Report Posted September 30, 2008 What dirtfreak said: It's just time consuming, but very easy. Don't go cheap on the compound or polishing wheels...after that, it's nothing but elbow grease... I've polished aluminum, plastic, lexan, plexiglass, etc...and the process is the same, DON'T rush it... Get some scrap stuff and go for it, you'll have it down in no-time... Quote
