quikshee Posted September 24, 2008 Author Report Posted September 24, 2008 I had the rear end up on a jack stand, shifted it to try and find neutral and it clunked. That's when it became hard to turn the wheels over and i couldn't change gears even when moving the tranny. Quote
shee4speed Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 that could be because the clutch side is off and the shift lever may be out of whack. Quote
quikshee Posted September 24, 2008 Author Report Posted September 24, 2008 What could of caused the clunk? I don't think it's anything to do with the rods because it runs great, until i try and move then it starts shittin out on me and wants to stall. Quote
shee4speed Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 Oh I thought all this started when you heard metal on metal rubbing sounds. Quote
quikshee Posted September 24, 2008 Author Report Posted September 24, 2008 Yeah at a low speed in first it would start the rubbing grinding noise, and would come and go. I could actually feel it in the bike when i was moving. It will start and run great, rev to the moon until i try and take off then i have to rev the crap out of it for it not to stall Quote
quikshee Posted September 24, 2008 Author Report Posted September 24, 2008 You and I both man. I guess i'm gonna have to rip into it and take a look. Thanks for all your help shee Quote
dirtfreak Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 if your engine is running fine until you engauge the trans sounds like clutch basket of trans.until you described the shifter rod coming out and play in the trans shaft gear by the clutch basket.sounds to me like you need a trans rebuild.also why your there with the compression readings you have. bore, pistons and rings doesn't sound like a bad idea either.sounds like maybe one of the 4 trans shaft bearings took a sh!t causing other problems for you.if it was me I don't think I would try to start it any more or you may spend mo money than you need to.I also believe if you were having crank bearing or rod bearing problems you would notice it with or with out a load on the engine.if the crank bearings were gone you would probably be leaking something through the crank seals. Dark Ranger Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 I agree that this is really starting to sound like a problem in the transmission. Looks like it is time to get a manual and get into this thing up to your elbows. Good luck. Quote
quikshee Posted September 24, 2008 Author Report Posted September 24, 2008 I was hoping it wasn't going to be the transmission, but looks like im gonna have to tear into it anywho. When i get her apart i'll let you guys know what is up. Quote
quikshee Posted September 24, 2008 Author Report Posted September 24, 2008 Ok i got the cases split, and i cannot see anything visibly wrong. No shavings and nothing broke. I'm thinking it's the bearings in the transmission gears, because I can't see anything else that could be wrong. When I spin the gears it does make kind of a clunking sound. Whatcha guys think??? Quote
Dark Ranger Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 Bearings should be rather quiet, so it sounds like you've found the culprit. Or at least you are getting it narrowed down. I've never taken my transmission apart so I won't be able to help much more. Did you get a manual for it yet? Quote
