Yes, I'm aware that I'm going to have entirely too much power lol. I told cam that I want to have enough power to do anything I needed it to anywhere in the RPM range and that bottom end and lower midrange was what has been holding me back. We talked about a ported stock cyl on race gas, but he said that there was no contest to what an MX ported serval on race gas could do when it came to a wide powerband. I'm assuming that this is why he recommended the CPIs over Shearers. He said CPIs would probably do well but that I may want to research other pipes and that's exactly what I intend to do. He also recommended 33-35pwks becuase 28s have been known to suck the bowls dry in rough sections and there would be no loss in bottom end and midrange with 33/35 as opposed to 28s. Will I ever be good enough to utilize 90hp? No. 60hp? No. I also considered that I'd probably have more bottom end with a 10mil super serval, but if a 421 won't do the trick, I'm doing something wrong that a larger engine won't fix.

Yep, MX. I don't boubt the Snipers will win, but I'm going to base my decision off of what I like the most. I'm blowing anyone off, it's that I want to make the DT ride and can't do it with Snipers becuase of the lead time. If I was blowing anyone off, I wouldn't be ordering the Snipers when I get it back running.

So change of plans. Cam is going to test the engine with both CPI and Snipers. Since the Snipers are 8-10 weeks out on shipping (no plating offered from SRP so add that time in) and FAST can have CPIs out in a day, I'm going to do the build with CPIs and buy Snipers when I have everything ready to roll. That way I can get a no shit answer on what I personally like the most. If they're both close enough to my liking, I'll sell whichever one I can get the most money for. I'll take a hit on them, but I can recoup that in half a day of overtime. I can justify 6 hours of work to see what makes me faster.

Decided on snipers. Waiting for a response from them about having them shipped to be plated. Seriously hope I can have them done before the DT ride.

He does have Snipers on hand.

Cam recommended CPI over Shearers for this build, not CPI above everything else. I'd throw some money at him to test the build with a bunch of different pipes but I have to have the bike back running for the DT ride. If I wait until he's done building it to order pipes, they may not make it here in time and I'll be stuck with T5s for the ride. I'm not one for impatience but I'll probably never be able to tell enough difference between Shearer, CPI, or Snipers to justify the time and money. Cam had a good point about how I may like a pipe that doesn't make as much power but is more along the lines of how I prefer to ride. That's probably why he didn't say to run a certain pipe without question. I'm pretty sold on the Snipers. If he can test the build with both, then I'll know for sure. I'll sell the snipers and buy some CPIs if they turn out to make a better curve, but it won't be until after the DT ride.

I'm pretty much decided on the Snipers at this point. Thanks guys.

Anywhere to buy chromed snipers? I did a quick search and came up with the actual website that doesn't offer chrome, then I have RDZ (I'd rather not). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

There's more wiggle room with more rpm. If I'm off the right side of the bike and need it to keep pulling for another second or 2, that rpm difference may not allow me to keep accelerating. I'd rather have a flatter curve than anything. Idc what makes that happen. Extra rpm is just a little nice at times. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I'm listening, it's just that the link shows snipers making the same curve as shearers, only 5-15hp less throughout. Unless there's something significantly different since 2012, I don't think I follow. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I'd buy some if I could find someone to buy the SLPs for $100 less than what I paid if I decided to sell them after cam tested them. That information would be worth $100 for me. Hell, I'll have $4500 in everything by the time I'm done, what's $4600 to make sure I'm getting the most out of it? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I'm more concerned with a wide powerband. I want it to pull down low (hence serval and race gas) as well as up high. If I knew I could rev the SLPs up to about 10.5, I'd run them. I may bite the bullet and try them, but I don't want to blow through too much money. I'd like to have some SLPs but I've never seen any used for sale. If I buy some to try, I'd lose out on at least $150 if I decided to sell them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I spoke with Cam at Redline and I'm sending my engine out around the first of Feb. I need to figure out what pipes to run. Engine will be a 421 race gas serval ported for MX, 33mm PWKs, VF4s. Cam recommended CPI over Shearers for this build, but also said that I may want to research other pipes depending on what I want as far as power delivery. Any recommendations?

That's cool, no rush. It'll probably be 5-10 years before I get one anyways lol.

It's growing down my way. I run a group on facebook for riders along the gulf coast and we have regular rides that have helped the scene more than I would have thought. The first ride had 4 people, the last one had around 30. We're starting to get on tracks once a month before they groom them. Some places are even considering building ATV specific tracks, but we're the ones doing the work (fine with me). We're having stickers made, I guess you could say we're pretty serious. What kind of problems did you run into with filter fitment on that chassis? What length were the shocks? Are the arms interchangeable with 250R arms? I'm sure there are people wondering the same thing.
-
I'm on the fence with it because there's only 1 MX class for 2-strokes in AMA that I could compete in and it's pretty much a free for all. I could take the money for a frame and shocks and buy a YFZR off the floor. It probably wouldn't be as fun initially, but the long term fun in racing in multiple classes of sanctioned races would likely make up for it, plus I'd still have my banshee that I have now. If I take this job in Texas, I seriously may buy both.

It makes it even harder that I already have $3k in suspension... One day.
-
I appreciate it. I can't bring myself to spend $7200 on one. I'd LOVE to get my hands on an aftermarket chassis.
-
Got any measurements? Also, wanna sell that chassis? I'll pay good money for it.

Then again, I may weld a short 1" x 1/4" lip on the back side of the stock shifter to keep the sole of my boot on so that I don't have to get over or under the shifter. In my thinking, I shouldn't have to move up or down more than twice the height of the tip of my sole to switch between upshifting and downshifting.
-
It's stock. It's just out of reach of my boot. Until I get used to the new boots, I'm gonna keep it stock length because I can move arouund pretty well with it out of the way as it is. I may shorten and weld it since it's as basic as it is, but I like it for now. I may fab up a shifter that's between the Blaster and Banshee units becuase the shorter one requires too much pivoting when switching between upshifting and downshifting, and the Banshee piece is just at the tip of my boots. I ride with my feet on the pegs under the backs of my arches. If I'm just a hair too far back, my boots just barely roll off of the shifter. I'm gonna glue a 3/8" rubber grommet onto the main rails where the kicker hits to keep the wear down as well.

I misread the thread title and thought I was about to see some plastic nerfs... Nonetheless, GLWS.

Anyone know stock weight by chance?
