Banshee shifting problems
Frankthetank replied to slapahobanshee's topic in General Banshee Discussion
Where did you get the motor and tranny from? -
Deadbeat... your a douche. I had an 87 that the cases were just opened for the first time this past winter and the engine builder that did it says that it was the cleanest motor he has seen internally. So you never know. Troy... you are a little high, but good luck. Just my 2 cents.

How good are T5 exhaust and pipes?
Frankthetank replied to EaCastillo00's topic in Jetting & Exhaust Forum
In my experience I would say that the T5 pipes are more of a mid range and topend type of pipe. They are just ok for low end power. For riding the dunes, I would say that they were a lot of fun. When the pipes hit that powerband they hit hard and hold the power thru the top speeds. They were just ok for trails. In my opinion. -
I have a set of extremes 21x12x8 8 paddles for sale if interested. They are about 90 percent condition.

Might be heading to silver lake this weekend
Frankthetank replied to stroked's topic in Riding and Events Forum
John and myself have gone around about different ideas to make it easier to get a voucher, but John always right. The best way to get a voucher is to be smarter than the situation. -

Stroked... if you get up there really early on Friday morning and get a Dune Ready Voucher that would be the way to do it. Or have a car in the Parking Lot Voucher line early in the morning on Friday that would be how you would get in for that Saturday. Getting wired on the voucher system is the key. -

You should have contacted us. ( WindycityJohn and myself). We had my truck in there. We could have helped get you and your bike out there. It was a fun riding on Sat. Little more traffic but made for some fun racing. -
If the weather is good I will be there on my 87.

I'm not looking to drag attention away from the original post, but I have a stock cylinder, stock carbs, .20 over, vf3, 4 mil, redline dune port, cpi inframe pipes, k&n pods, and after running the lower jetting size the air/fuel ratio was very high. I tried each combo of jets and the clip position to get the air/fuel and hp where I wanted it and still have a reliable motor.
-
I believe it was leak tested. It was a redline build and Cam told me that it was. I dynod it around 15 times to get the jetting right. The air/fuel numbers looked good along with the other readings.
-
I've got a stock cylinder 4mil with stock carbs and a dune port. I am running 400 mains, 32.5 pilot and needle of the 3rd clip. air screw at 2.5 turns out at 85 degs. If it was me I would bump up your pilot jet a little. I don't think that your main will be as big as mine but if should be somewhat close. My setup is a little more aggressive than yours so jetting will be different. If possible I would get in touch with a shop that has a dyno and talk to them or go see them. That will help a lot. Good luck.

I have the same issue that you do and I fabricated a set of Toomey sparky's to my cpi silencers. Worked great. All I have to do is remove the screens and I can run without sparky's. I can't post pics on here but if you want I can send you pics thru text.
-
I asked around about this once. I think the diameter of the two pieces don't line up. I would just by the cpi silencers. Or do you have to run sparky's where your at and that's why you are asking? If so there is a solution to that.

Little gas in air box, carbs seem very wet as well
Frankthetank replied to Durf4693's topic in Banshee Repairs and Mods
I ride in mud, dirt, small creeks and sand and I run pods. Someone mentioned it, but it does clean up the bike a lot. If it was me I would run pods with outer wears. I also ran boysen reeds, stock pilot and 300 mains at 1.5 turns out on stock carbs with t5's. I would also recommend adjusting your air screw for the temp at which your riding at. That could possibly cause a bog on the low end. As far as the wet carbs and filter box, I would check your float level and make sure everything is cleaned and with new solid tip plugs. Also on my new setup I run stock carbs with an aftermarket needle from a dynajet kit. Seems to work fine. -
J-Arm Drag Banshee w/ Tons of Spares
Frankthetank replied to KX500's topic in For Sale - Parts & Accessories
I saw that J-arms were mentioned. Are they stock or aftermarket? If aftermarket, I would be interested. -
I usually do the porting, but the wife has a great feel for polishing. My guess 58hp.
-
Vitalik... Did you say you had pipes on it? If not, pipes, pod filters, reeds and shocks before porting. In my opinion.
-
I guess you could just port it and ride and see how it reacts. The shame of it though is that who wants to rip a motor back out to rear it down to possibly do more work when it could have been done when it was out the first time. I had an 87 like John said and it had t5's with pod filters and of course works front shocks and I was barely getting beat by bikes that were ported. I didn't see a huge difference that's why I took the road I did and built it up a little. Only problem was that you have to be informed as possible so that you don't get burned by being way over budget. So in saying that, a ported bike on a stock swingarm and an old chain and gears sounds like a beast that might be interesting to control if it's around 60-65 hp
-
There are lots of posts on here that cover that type of info. Saying that, it all depends on your budget. Meaning that if you get a dune port done, your going to want a longer swingarm, longer and stronger chain, chain slide, possibly a different axle carrier, beefier water pump, definitely pipes if you don't have that yet and more than likely a new topend. Just a few things that might need to be upgraded if you increase your hp. But the fun factor increases as well ! As far as reliability, I would definitely have it professionally dynod with your setup. They can dial it in and make it safe for the long haul and help you learn your bike. But don't just take my word on this topic, I'm learning too.

I wouldn't hit the trails with paddles for obvious reasons, but skat trak haulers or extremes are always a good choice.
