O.K. i had some problems shifting the banshee recently and when i pulled the cov er i found the washer and circlip which holds on the idler gear sitting in the bottom of the cover. I bought a new one and also a new shift shaft just because i was already in there and figured why not make sure it is good too. When i went to re-install the idler gear i realized that the groove that the circlip sits in was damaged pretty bad and had bbroken off a little bit towards the outside of the shaft. The circlip will not seat properly and therefore wont stay on under pressure. My question is can the shaft that the idler gear sits on be replaced without splitting the cases? If not could i take it to the local welder who does amazing work and have him spot weld the circlip and washer to the shaft so my idler gear cant come off? I am going to replace the bushing in the idler gear but dont want to tear the whole motor apart right now. I figure if i can either replace the shaft without splitting the cases or have it welded on and it will last me through the summer i will be happy. I realize that welding the washer and circlip on are not the correct way of fixing this but cant afford to have the cases split right now and will probably rebuild the bottom end over the winter months anyway so am not to worried about haveing to replace that shaft that the idler gear sits on at a later date. Let me know what you think and any other possible solutions which are better than welding them on. Thanks!!!!

From everything i've heard timing, and reeds for power. It is my understanding that the cool head doesn't add any power unless you go to smaller CC domes and then if you go too small you have to run race fuel.

Ok will do. That sprocket behind the clutch only controls starting the quad? I was still able to start it after the problems started but maybe it happend on my way back to the shed. I never tried to start it after that. Where is the shift star located. I will get a pic of it and of the whole assembly under the cover with the clutch on and off. Appreciate the help. I would be screwed without this site and plan on going premium next month when i have the cash. Would've been sooner but assuming this may cost me a little bit of $. -

All right guys finally got the cover off last night and this is what i found. It looks like the sprocket directly behind the clutch basket has come loose. One of the pictures is of a washer and a clip i found laying on the bottom rail of the case. Other picture is of what moves when you move shift lever. There is a video of my buddy moving the sprocket (not sure what it is really called) back and forth and another video of moving the shifter up and down. It looked to me like the only problem was the sprocket but i may be wrong. Should i replace sprocket? and what else do you recomend. Appreciate any and all info. http://i676.photobucket.com/albums/vv127/f...er/IMG00020.jpg http://i676.photobucket.com/albums/vv127/f...er/IMG00018.jpg http://s676.photobucket.com/albums/vv127/f...nt=MOV04713.flv http://s676.photobucket.com/albums/vv127/f...nt=MOV04712.flv -

I am a new member an would agree with this totally as long as the block doesn't make it so i can't buy parts and only restricts the selling of them. Although i do think that a year is a little to long. Maybe a 6 month trial period or something.

No i had to work late last night and couldn't get it pulled. (Apparently my wife thinks it is more important to spend time with her than work on my quad) Don't know if i agree but what can ya do. Anyway i'm going to try and get off a little early and get it pulled off today. Will let you know how it goes. Thanks. -

Awesome appreciate the info. I will look there first. Did you have to replace the shift shaft or star when it happened to you? Should i replace the shift star and shaft when i'm in there? -

Ok first off clutch cover is on the left side of motor when sitting on the Quad? I know stupid question but new to quads and haven't really tore into one before. I do not have a Clymers manual but have the full service maual for the banshee and assume that it will have info on pulling clutch cover. I will pull the cover and have a look at what the guts look like. I will probably have to take pictures and post them so if you get a chance keep an eye on the thread for pics of interior. Appreciate the information. If it is any of these things how serious and involved is it to fix? I am reasonably mechanically inclined just haven't ever worked on anything that wasn't a car or truck. -

So I went out riding today and got in 3 good hours and all of a sudden I couldn't down shift anymore. It would up shift fine but wouldn't down shift except from 6th gear to 5th. All gears were working fine as i upshifted but when i went to turn around and down shift there was nothing. Fluid still shows full and am hoping its just a linkage problem but really have no idea. Let me know what you think. Thanks Udate: After i got it home it wouldn't shift at all. Stuck in 5th -

What all is left? Interested in the swinger/axle/carrier. Also if i need to run longer brake lines and chain would be interested in those too. Let me know.

Wow seriously guys no need to get this worked up. It's just oil. Just to add my 2 cents worth i am new to the quad world and expecially banshees and appreciate the original post as i had no idea what to run just what the local shithead mechanic told me which of course is $12 a quart. I enjoy reading what everybody runs and how it performs based on their performance level. I now have a few much cheaper options to look at running. P.S. you guys bitch more than my fucking wife.
