  1. Hey guys, I just got my bike about 1 month ago, and have rode it about 10 hours. The bike was purchased with about 20 hours on it from a friend. Mods are K&N piece of shit filter and FMF powercore silencers. Lately it has been hotter than normal. The bike was jetted before purchase for the filter and silencers. Still stock pipes though. I un 40:1 Bel-Ray H1R with 94oct. I had a friend take it for a test ride last week and he hit a major mudhole and I am anal about bike cleanliness. I stood the bike on end on the grab bar. When lowered down the bike didn't wanna start. I finally got started but the bike was riding rough, I checked the filter and in the airbox there was fluid in the lower corner, premix, the gas went backwards and went through the filter and into the airbox, not much but still. I removed the filter and cleaned it with the K&N recharge kit. I went out last weekend and the bike was riding terrible, no low end whatsoever, I was thinking the jetting might be off since it was like 90 and the humidity was high. Today fresh plugs and clean filter and it wasn't wanting to start, finally I got going and as I was warming it up it was acting up again. Finally I get it going and ride for around 1 hour, and then a buddy takes it for a spin and the bike dies out. I am checking everything, gas, plugs, and it seems okay. I get it started, but releasing the clutch it dies instantly unless obsurd amounts of gas are given to it. then it will bog around and then start to go somewhere. I finally get home with it and I try to take it up a paved high in front of my house and the bike barely makes it up the 100ft hill that is only 30ft higher than the starting point. I was in second gear pinned. Not really sure whats wrong with it. I am thinking this is carb related. Maybe too much filter oil, maybe bad jetting. Anyone have any info or ideas I would appreciate it. I hope I provided enough information for someone to help me out. Thanks in advance.
  2. Well I am completely used to riding my relatively tame Banshee. I scored a mean 2002 from a guy with 20 original hours on it for about 3100 a few weeks back. After running through about 3 tanks of gas I am ready for some upgrades. I was thinking pipes and intake system first. I was debating about Toomey 5s and 6s, but I think maybe Paul Turner Mids might be the best since midrange is where I do most of my riding. As for intakes, I have a K&N filter with outerwear, but I hate K&N they are pieces of shit. I am just trying to figure out what I should try, Toomey has a unit and I know Pro Design seems to be a common one used by you guys. I figure those are the first two things and then probably timing plate and new tires and gearing adjustments. Any info you guys supply me with is very appreciated. I frequent the site but try not too post because 2-strokes are new to me so I really don't have the knowledge to rightfully tell someone something. From what I read so far Toomeys seem to be the choice of most recreational trail riders. Thanks to you guys in advance.
  3. I ride my local pit in Barnegat. Kinda small, but it's only occupied by me. So I have plenty of fun with that, and when I get bored of that I usually go ride the parkway trails. Between exits 69-63. There is an assload of trails that all branch off from there so I can usually keep myself occupied for a long ways.
  4. Thanks for all the help and advice guys. I appreciate it a lot. Can someone explain the reasoning behind using different mixes of gas:oil? When do you know when to change to a different ratio? I am still using 34:1 in my tank and everything seems good. My first and only complaint about the quad is the stock death grips. My hand grips consistently shred off layers of my skin on my knuckles. Any input on tire selection for hooking up? I would like to put the power down before I go and add more. Thanks guys.
  5. Hey how are you guys doing? I'm John and I live in southern jersey and just picked up my first two-stroke and first Banshee. I located a pristine 20002 Yamaha blue Banshee from a co-workers neighbor and picked up it for 3100 cash. Bike is practically stock with the exception of FMF silencers. The bike also has about 22 hours on it, 2 of them were from me. All in all I am happy with the bike. And pleased on the deal. The previous only gave me title, spare key service books, and a giant zip lock with all the plugs he changed. there is about 7 sets. I have a few places to ride but don't do a lot of riding in the summer with the crazy work schedule. I am figuring my first mods should be pipes, induction and a jet kit. I don't plan on porting the motor anytime soon, but I was looking into Trinitys stage 2 port as it fits the description of the the style of riding I do most. I am on the fence about Toomy 5s or 6s. It seems like 5s would be the better choice. i would like to do the ignition and 2-1 carb later on after I square away pipes. I already used the search function and have thrown out the use of FMFs due to a lousy craftsmanship with them rusting faster than leading competitors. I also like the Toomy intake as well. My final question is about fuel ratio, the previous owner was doing 24:1 with Yamalube as per instructions in manual. After searching about and talking to a local shop they suggested a Bel-Ray product and a ratio of 36:1. I did 34:1 personally and the bike felt great. Any suggestions or recommendations. This is a big difference compared to my 400EX and am trying to become more familiar with the bike and it's intricacies. Thanks to you guys in advance for any knowledge you pass on.
