  1. I've got a stock crank that came out of my project when I purchased it. I think it's the right side rod that was chewed up just above the wrist pin. Other than that I think it's ok. No gears or anything though and the bearings seem to be ok. It's just in my way because I got another crank to build on. $30 plus shipping from 38572.
  2. I have a mostly new 522 piece Alloy Boltz stainless bolt kit for a Banshee. The reason I say mostly new is because I started building my Banshee about 2 and a half years ago and stopped on it. The individual kits that have been installed are the front bumper bolts, lower a-arm, TORS controller, ignition coil, dog bone, lower link, voltage regulator, CDI box, grab bar, tail light, swingarm chain guide, and steering stem bearing. These bolts will be removed and individually tagged/bagged and returned to the kit. I don't know if you'd consider them used or mocked up or what but my Banshee is still a bare frame sitting on the stand. These bolts have never seen a speck of dirt at all. I'm asking $100 shipped to anywhere in the contiguous 48 United States. Here's the link to what comes with the kit, http://alloyboltz.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=193_212_213&products_id=1110 . PM me or email for faster response at R1Rider31@hotmail.com.
  3. You guys have convinced me to keep working on building my Banshee. I'm still in the process of doing a complete frame-up resto build of my '97 and I have some questions. 1. Where is the cheapest place online to get factory Yamaha parts? I use MRCycles.com for my R1 parts as they usually beat everyone else by about 10%+ on their prices but on Banshee parts as of right now they are the highest I've found. That's a real buzzkill because I've got about 150 part numbers to order and it's a major PITA to enter all of those numbers only to find out prices are higher than expected. 2. Will paint on the frame be ok to ride with instead of powder coating? I know powder coating is the ultimate and I fully intended on doing it but I've lost my job and need to get this thing running in case I have to sell it. I want to at least be able to ride it first though. It has 2 coats of PPG 9700 base black and 2 coats of PPG DCU2021 clear over K36 primer. After that I decided I didn't like the gloss look because it was too hard to get to match so I scuffed everything and went over it with spray bomb semi flat Rust Tough black. It looks good but I want it to last as long as possible. Thanks in advance to all of you for the help. This started out as a simple rebuild and has turned into a several thousand dollar performance restoration and without the support of everyone on this forum I'd have probably already sold it. But for now I keep searching and building...
  4. I'm in Crossville, TN. Been too cold to ride the bike for a while now but I have no room to work on the Banshee either due to the bike and my race car in a 1-car garage. I've got nearly everything I need but just have no motivation. I hate it too because it tickles my pickle to even be around a running Banshee. The sounds, the power, the experience just puts me in a different world all together. Anyway, I guess I'll keep it over the winter and then decide. I know I'll never get even what I've sank into it not to mention what I gave for it initially.
  5. Ok guys, I'm at a crossroads here and need some serious motivation to keep building or start selling. I've had my '97 since March of '07. When I got it there was some major damage to the motor so I immediately wanted to tear the thing down to the frame and build back up. That was my first and probably most detrimental mistake. Since then I've sank a couple grand in it and still don't even have a rolling chassis together yet. A year and a half ago I purchased a 2007 R1 and have since put every spare minute and dime into the bike, meanwhile leaving the Banshee to collect dust. I'm looking to drastically step up with the bike program both in performance and skills in 2010. The problem is (just like with 99% of others) money. I feel that IF I decide to sell the Banshee it would be better to part out than to sell as incomplete, or would it? My original plan was to replace every nut, bolt, and bushing that I possibly could, and I've done quite a bit. This thing very easily could be close to being completed at least enough to be putted around the yard but for now I have a ton of money tied up in it and it is REALLY in the way still sitting on the stand waiting on me. Very few parts need to be purchased to complete the project but a ton of work to finish and I really just don't have the time. What do I do?
  6. Thanks a TON, I was just about to get off of the compo for the night and thought I'd check my thread one more time and seen your post. That's the way I thought it went on but I didn't know for sure. I'm rebuilding my banshee from the frame up so having the swingarm off wasn't an issue. Thanks again!!!
  7. Ya I guess I should've specified. The swingarm piece is the one I'm needing to know about.
  8. Can someone please tell me how this goes on, preferably pictures.... I'm drawing a blank here.
  9. I know everyone's wanting black plastic so I might as well throw in my 2 cents as well. I'm interested in really nice looking black plastic for my Banshee. I'm building from the frame up and this is the last thing I need. Everything I have is black so black plastic is a must. No race cuts front or rear please. Any offers?
  10. "I am sure somebody could probabaly set you up with a used set of FMF pipes to try and keep your costs down, hell, maybe even a used crank." Just curious but will my T-5's not work good or better with the 4mil than the FMF's? I may have forgotten to mention that I had them. I posted it in the beginning of this thread but yes I do have a practically brand new set of T-5's... What mods do I have to have to run the 4mil? Someone told me about some kind of spacer for the cylinders to accomodate the extra stroke... If I do the 4mil I won't have enough money to do carbs, reed cages, etc., will my stock carbs be ok? Are there any mods I can give them to help them out a little? Any other small mods that I can do involving machine work and such that I can do on my own? I've heard possibly porting the case or porting the stock cages a little may help... Anything to save money is something that will attract my attention. I've done tons of porting so I'm pretty confident in my skills, I doubt I'll pay anyone to do it so that'll save me a little. Give me some more ideas....
  11. You guys are killin me.... I may have to break down and build a 4 mil instead. That seems to be what 99% of you guys have suggested so my question here is can I build a 4 mil that's super reliable? Naturally the more mods you make to a motor the more powerful but less reliable it becomes and I don't need this thing breaking down on me on the trail somewhere... And what about prices, brands, etc.? I need the whole kit-n-caboodle, not just crank and rods. And of course I know this also brings on other mods but just clue me in....
  12. beer+banshee forum= one hell of a time Ok so far I've got a few votes for lightened flywheels, 2 into 1 carbs and pipes, adjustable timing plate, new domes, etc.... anything else? Here how bout this.... Sounds stupid I know but forget the "torque" banshee part. Seems I'm gonna have to change my riding style a bit for the Banshee so how bout this, let's shoot for mid-range power. And low, mid, or high-rpm whatever, what are the basic first mods a new Banshee rider would make to their stock Banshee? Again except for the cool head because I've already got that but tell me a good dome size....
  13. Ok lets do this, say I've got 1000 to put into the motor alone. And lets also say that all I have right now is a bone stock motor, stock bore, stroke, carbs, reeds, except the cool head with 22cc domes, EVERYTHING else is stock. What areas do I need to spend the money on? And I know a grand isn't much to get to where I'm wanting to be but for starting out that's all I can hope for right now...
  14. Ya I don't know yet what kind of shocks/springs I'll go with but ya that includes those too. And dropping the front sprocket a tooth or 2 was exactly what I was gonna do. By the way, I agree, most any stock 4 stroke today would blast a stock banshee on the trails. Oh well, I guess it's the legend and the history of a Banshee that keeps me stuck on it too. The new stuff is just that, new. Sure the technology is way beyond that of a Banshee but it's more of a challenge to me to make my Banshee run like I want it to rather than buy something that already runs that great. See what I mean? lol
  15. I'm not on a soap box dude, I'm just explaining how I feel about it plain and simple. As far as the part about being different. Isn't that what it's all about? I mean come on, who wants to have the exact same thing that someone else has? I'm not getting uptight I'm just trying to justify my reasoning. And if my reasoning still isn't explained or justified then that's fine. This is a forum, it's made for discussion and opposing opinions. That's how you get things explained and worked out and stuff like that. In my opinion, I hate the way a 4 stroke sounds. Even with a quiet stock exhaust your constantly getting deafened by the obnoxious sound. Again, just my opinion... To me theres nothing like being in the woods or on the track and hearing a well tuned 2 stroke hitting the powerband. AHHHHH. Anyway, I just think a 4 stroke is too monotonous. The tone never changes, just the rpms. I love the power of a 4 stroke though. There's no denying that a 2 stroke will never trump a 4 stroke when it comes to torque. My goal is to try to get as much torque as I can and to make it as trail-friendly as I can. No one ever said they were trying to make more torque than a thumping 4 stroke. I'm planning on going to a taller gear because as I said earlier, I could care less what it runs on top end because it is hard to find something that outperforms a banshee in top speed. Because I'm restoring and reusing most of the stock parts I'll probably have between $2500 and 3000 in it when it is finally ready to ride. I'm doing all the work myself so that's gonna save a ton. It's not gonna be a contender, powerhouse, or whatever you wanna call it, just your ordinary nice looking, decent running banshee. Keep in mind, this is only my 2nd 2 stroke and my first banshee so I've got a lot to learn. But like I said, I just wanna make it torquey so it'll be more trail friendly and in turn be more easy to learn to ride for me...
  16. I think you're probably right. You know maybe I'll just get rid of the banshee and be like everyone else that wants to do it the easy way and just go buy a thumping 4 stroke off the showroom floor with a warranty and every piece will be brand new. Ya I'll do that as soon as I come across about 8 grand because if I can find a good 4 stroke that doesn't cost that much it'd take the rest of the money to make it run anywhere close to a banshee. Heck by then I'd have about one of the fastest and quickest banshee's around my area if I put that kind of money into mine... Seriously though, if anyone has ever built a machine from the ground up then you know that there's a sense of pride that comes with the completion of the project. I don't think I'll ever get rid of my Banshee. If any of the 4 stroke guys haven't heard, they don't make Banshees anymore. I guess you could say maybe they are kind of a collector item now, that was my main reason for wanting one and finally being able to get one. The more I think about it I think I'll just put it back bone stock. Heck I may be dissatisfied but I can tune my riding skills to the Banshee instead of trying so hard to tune the Banshee to me. I'm very much a domestic-car guy, I drag race a '68 Camaro and I drive a Ford truck (twisted isn't it), I can't say that I really believe in anything else when it comes to automobiles. But as far as atv's and such, the way things are nowadays you're just retarded if you don't buy a foreign made atv/bike. They're lighter, quicker, faster, and overall much more durable and competitive than American makes. I've come to realize that after owning a Polaris... As far as the gas buildup after your rebuild, I can understand that. But I do know that due to federal and state emissions laws mandate that the same fuel will be mixed numerous ways to comply with a certain states regulations. With that said, I can see your point. The buildup I was talking about was actually on one of my race motors in my Camaro. I'll never run pump gas again simply for that one incident I had with the gas. Oddly enough that motor only had bout a hundred miles on it.... Oh well. Keep it coming!!! And as far as pissing on my parade, don't worry bout it. My parade is still a bare frame with boxes upon boxes of parts laying around hahaha... And on an ending note, I cannot believe a banshee owner suggested that I trade it for a 4 stroke, you should be ashamed...
  17. Ok, good info on the Paul Turner's and the domes. What about Pro Circuits? Almost snagged a set the other nite. They were cheap enough I figured I could at least try them out but ended up losing the bid... DG's? FMF's? And I may run race fuel anyhow. To look inside of a motor that has been ran on today's pump gas is sickening, so much oil in it that it's a wonder an engine even fires with it and it also causes horrible build up from the fuel. Anyway... Keep the info pouring in!!!
  18. Ok I'm running stock crank and rods, how many cc's lower can I go and not hurt the bottom end?
  19. I'm looking to spend as little as possible. And trust me, I know that's not possible lol. But seriously, right now I just wanna get it on the trail. I would be satisfied with putting the stock stuff back on it but with past experiences everyone is always looking for more bottom end. That's what I wanna get out of mine. I'm looking to use the stock airbox and as much stock stuff as I can for cost effectiveness right now. I want to keep it simple for reliability. I haven't even started on the motor yet so any suggestions whatsoever are appreciated...
  20. That sounds awesome but that's kinda what I'm limited to, fundage. I'm trying to take what I already have and work with it as much as possible. Bore, stroke, etc. are things that are pretty much gonna be a given, no changing them. If I had plenty of money I'd go with a 421 powervalve motor that way I wouldn't have to worry bout lack of power but for right now I'm stuck with what I've got.
  21. Ya I was planning on porting or at least smoothing things out and profiling a bit. I don't wanna go in and hog them out first thing, I'd rather let a professional shop do the major porting. I'd planned on VF3's but just in case i have to use the stock reed cages what are the best replacement reeds? The domes, what size would be best? It's a Top Notch Billet cool head so I'm not even sure if it has the same dome design as the more popular brands. And call me stupid but what are the pt lows you're talking about? This is my first Banshee and only my second 2 stroke so I'm gonna act stupid so I can get everything explained as detailed as I can.
  22. I'm in the process of building a Banshee from the frame up. I'm not at all worried about horsepower numbers, what I want is torque. All that will be done to the motor is stock bore and stroke with Wiseco's, cool head with 22cc domes, Toomey T-5 complete system, Toomey filter, stock carbs tuned for filter and pipes, I think that's about it... What I wanna know is what are the best choices for replacement reeds for bottom end torque and what can I do to get more bottom end out of my combination? I'm planning on heavy trail riding so again, horsepower numbers are useless to me, I need torque. I know that I won't get much torque out of a 2-stroke but I'd like to be able to get as much as possible...
