How could my motor have taken the abuse I gave it yesterday with out coolant circulating... It was about 49 degrees out????
-
I turned my idle down and got the coolant to stop vibrating and I could see that it wasnt moving. started the motor and let it run about 5 min. in that time my head got hotenough that I couldnt hold my hand on it and I kept sticking my finger in the radiator and the coolant was stone cold but how did my motor take me running the shit out of it yesterday if the coolant isnt circulating.
-
I bought my last thumb throttle from ebay and had no problems with it and I just bought abouther from there. I looked at the pics and asked questions before I bid and I think I got a good one for $45 I would buy the tors removal kit from one of the mentioned places. toomey seems to be really reasonable.

I think I may be on to something. My idle was set too high and I just haddent had time to turn it down. I turned it down so the coolant wasnt vibrating so much and I could watch it. I pulled my cap off the radiator and started it up. let it run for about 5 minutes. In that time I could see a little black speck in the coolant and it was definately not moving. I kept sticking my finger in the coolant through the radiator and it was stone cold while the head got hot enough that I couldn't hold my hand on it. I think im not circulating. what U think????

when I start the motor with the cap off the vibration causes the coolant to look like the atlantic in a hurricain and i cant really tell if its flowing or not. Im gunna start it and let it run and see if the whole radiator starts getting warm. It should all get warm at about the same rate right?? Do you think my motor would have been able to take the hard running yesterday if my coolant wasnt flowing. I rode it damn near wot for about 10 miles to the bar and back again?????
-
the radiator was quite hot yesterday not extremely but hot (sorry about my wording) I think I will drain the coolant and check my impeller. I wont be able to do it today but maybe tomorrow. if its not that Ill have to check my head gasket I guess and buy a new one.

I had an earlier thread asking about this gurgaling sound Im getting. I just rode it for about 5 min and it was making the sound. It sounds like boiling hot water coming up through the small hose on the top of the head. The top of my radiator was hot but the bottom was cold. This could be just cause I only rode for 5 min and not hard. However I rode yesterday balls to the wall for about an hour and it ran good and the radiator felt warm all over. Im wondering if my coolant isnt circulating but would my motor have lasted yesterday if it wasn't????? Thanks for the help guys!!!!

HUM... I pulled the radiator cap and let it run a couple min. filled up the res bottle but Im still gettin the gurgaling sound. I really think it might be a head gasket. I just put a new one on and I bet it was defective because other than the shaved head and lightened flywheel thats all ive done to it since ive had the noise. is there a cheaper place to buy a head gasket than a yamaha dealer??? $21.95
-
I was thinking of that too Its a little more expensive but it will prolly work a lot better. What if I bought just a cheaper spray on wax and sprayed my frame and under my fenders. I was also thinking of spraying my swingarm and frame area with wd 40 right after washing it before it dries and maybe that will help fight the rust that appears on the frame after a few times getting wet. What ya think??

no shit your from tug hill... What part. I trailor my sleds to flat rock inn and ride from there a couple times a year but Im from Cranberry Lake and we have about the same amount of riding on great groomed trails and less than 1/5 of the amount of sleds as tug hill so I usually ride right out of my front yard. Ive had a lot of xc's and they are great sledsI had a 98 xc 600, then a 2000 xc 700 that I totalled with no insurance so I bought my dads 99 xc 700 off him, then got an 01 xc 700 the next year, this year I bought an 02 xc 700 and rode that and now I bought my dads 04 xc 700 that he put 300 miles on last winter. I want to ride my shee up on tug hill I rode there one time a couple summers ago and it was awsome. all long straight dirt rodes. I loved it.

Im trying to think of ways to keep the mud and junk from sticking all up in my frame so it is easier to wash at the end of the day. I tried wd 40 it seems to wash off good but the dirt sticks to wd40 so it gets dustier faster. I am thinking of trying Pam cooking spray on the frame and motor. That should wash right off I would think????? if nothing else it will give my banshee a nice buttery flavor. lmfao!!

How Should My Motor Feel After I Advance Timing +4
nickxc replied to nickxc's topic in General Banshee Discussion
Im still trying to work this out I still havent gotten a feeler guage to check my pickup coil gap I hope this takes care of it otherwise Im gunna maybe just turn my stator plate back to the stock postiion and see what difference it makes. -
What should my motor feel like. I posted earlier that It felt slower. I have been riding it and I can explain better how it feels. The meat of the power feels weaker but It seems to pull maybe 200 or 300 more Rs than it did before. Is this right. I really dont like the way the power feels flater in the upper middle.?? any info is appreciated. thanks!!

I mean Hydroplaining. Not water skiing This months dirtwheels had two different pics of it being done on banshees in the back and Ive seen it before. Ive done it by accident on my warrior and rolled it in the water but I think if I had more speed and controle I could do it.
-
I see this in the mags all the time and I want to try it. I have been looking for just the right water hole and I am wondering if anyone who has done it has any suggestions. It looks awsome

WOW. Check this out. it was spring 2001 I had to have a quad and I was at my local stealership. I had the choice of banshee or warrior and I wanted 4 stroke reliability so I went with the warrior. My buddy had a banshee that I had never ridden. I let him take my warrior for a ride and he came back and said (ya thats about the same as mine) a couple days later I took his banshee for a ride and I had no idea. I smacked him when I got back for lying to me when he rode mine. I put it on ebay and have had 2 banshees since and will never go without one again.

the radiator is in perfect condition the quad is new. Idk im gunna check it out today and see if the coolant needs perged

Just Finished Moding My Timing Plate No Difference

where do I get a feeler gauge? Sears?? I better have one I guess. -
Ill try and purge the system first and see if that works. If I pull my head I will have to put on a new head gasket anyway so if thats the problem Ill know.

oh ya how the hell do you measure .015 of an inch???? -
Ive done a couple plug checks and everything looks good its a medium chocolate color on the insulator. The first thing I thought was head gasket too. My head was done buy a banshee performance shop that has proven its self to me so I dont think I have a piston clearance problem. I might get another head gasket and try it I just put one on maybe its bad.
-
I just reinstalled my shaved head and a new head gasket and Im getting a gurgalling sound when I run it kinda hard and then shut it off. I never noticed it before. Its kinda like a clunking sound in the radiator.

I didnt realize there was a certain pickup coil gap. Is the pickup coil the black box I talk about??? Thanks -
I have been thinking of swithching to a single carb setup. easy to rejet, always perfect sincronization. both cylinders will always run the same. The only thing Im worried about is loosing topend. I dont want to get beet by a ported banshee with stock carbs and Im all about top end speed. But Im sic of trying to get perfect sinctonization.
