I will start by saying a quicker ET will always win a race regardless of mph. Your 90-94 mph will beat 98-101 mph with a quicker ET, as long as your reaction time is equal to or better than your opponent or you have no other infraction like a red light or other rules infraction. Anyway, is there ET to be found with raising your mph, with that much difference there's (IMO). Backing your timing down is just a simple test to see if your mph raises. If it doesn't you simply go back to what you had. If the mph increases you keep lowering the timing until it stops showing an improvement. If lowering timing doesn't show improvement. It's time to start working on another area of the tuning area. I most always start with things that cost nothing, but a little time. If lowering the timing does improve mph, it may very well affect your ET. Other areas may have to be changed to get your ET back or improve it.

This is what I would like to see from you. Do your research, pick one tire size 18 or 19 diameter & the tread width. Then before buying talk with me.
-
I agree the plugs don't look bad, but a correct plug reading doesn't always equal the quickest ET & best MPH. IMO, our best indicator for timing & fuel has always been using mph thru the traps. While I've never ran the specific distance of 500'. I've ran 300', 1/8 mile & 1/4 mile & I would imagine he should be in the 96-101 mph range on a good run. The easiest test would be change his timing -2* & see if the mph picks up. I don't think it's safe to add timing, by looking at the strap.
-
Even with the above information I gave, I would do some more research before I made a decision on one of my bikes.
-
LOL! IMO that's fucking up & wasting money. Grasshopper, experience goes a long way into knowing what to do. IMO, the right tire for our combinations would be a 19" or 20" diameter with a 5" or 6" tread width. We both know they don't make that tire. This is purely my opinion again, I would probably lean toward a 18x10x10 on you combo over the 8" wide combo. A rash decision is never a good one IMO!

IMO, +10 is the biggest part of the problem with the information given. Most people don't understand the demands of a 2 stroke trying to get the quickest ET & highest mph at distances of 500' or longer.

There's a couple more laws that apply & maybe more.
-
I'll point you in the right direction. It has to do with the basic laws of physics/laws of motion. That information is easily found. The harder part is finding the information that applies to your questions. Now, the hardest part is applying the information in a correct manner to get your results. I would like to hear some of your research on the subject, put into layman's terms on the subject! I was to easy on you the last time. LOL!

Grumpy, I resemble that & my old nickname at the track; among other's. LOL!

Our racing schedule is getting changed around by the minute it seems like. My mom is not doing well, but wants me to race. We are taking an extra week of vacation. I'm keeping a few people informed on our changes. As for Wheelman & Dajogejr, I'll give Chris as much heads up as I can on Milan. Right now we have it earmarked for Sun. Sept. 7.

There are 2 people I trust for asphalt set-ups here, Tedder & myself. Don't rush into anything, do your research. There's plenty of good asphalt information on this site.
-
You don't think 10,800 is maxed out? This isn't my 1st asphalt rodeo. We have around 1,000 runs on asphalt. I understand that, I've ran 1/4 mile with 5 gears. I don't need to sell you anything, take my advice or not. I have a successful background in drag racing.
-
Only the biggest of motors need a 10" wide tire. 95% of asphalt bikes need only a 8" wide. As for the diameter, with that set-up. I would run the 18's, but you already know what the 19s will do.
-
Hint, keep the 19s! If I only ran 1/8 mile it would be on 18s or 19s.

I don't think you are very far off from the optimum gearing for 1/8 mile. I do things differently than most when gearing an ATV. I'll explain it a little better under the other quotes. While I don't have all your set-up. I can tell the Quad is lighter than most & I'm assuming the rider is light. Plus, you are using a 19" dia. tire. Just need the rider weight & primary ratio for a clearer picture. This explanation is pretty vague. At the minimum you should be at the RPM your motor makes peak HP. In most cases, the motor should be at a higher RPM than peak HP at the finish line. Example below. Our gearing stays the same between 1/8 & 1/4 mile in 98% of our situations. We only use 5th gear for 1/8, but use 6th for 1/4. Here's the example of rpm I was talking about. Our motor made peak HP at 9,700 rpm. On our quickest and fastest runs we hit the finish line at 10,700-10,800 rpm.

Totally different set-up for the 1/4 mile. It has been much faster than that.
-
Busy!
-
This will tell more of the story, but this set-up was for 1/4 mile.

Hey, don't drag me into Teddy's fetishes.

Hey there my cross dressing buddy. You sure are awful quiet!, Labor Day Weekend 2014 is quickly approaching. I've been working on another Secret Weapon, hope you are ready.
-
You are right about people reading about it, but not talking about it. I want to thank-you for sharing your experience with clutch tuning or learning. If I remember right your 60's started in the 1.5 range. Then you worked your way down into the 1.4 range & continued all the way down to low 1.30s. Great Job! When this thread evolved into the mid to later stages. I was hoping to hear more discussion/feedback from people reading & hopefully learning from it. Phunt stepped up to the plate & I appreciate that. Where this thread goes is really up to the reader's at this point. You get what you put into it & I have already said too much!

You getting in any asphalt time in this year? Some quads from out of state are coming to race at Ubly on Labor Day weekend.

Best deal on a hays Multi stage?

You are making it harder than what it is! I know one that uses data logging & I chose not too. It's not a guess; timers, log books, video, hearing & the butt dyno. All equate to low 60' times when done with or without data logging. X2, was you drinking early? LOL! -
VP has M1, M3 & M5, they are listed towards the end of the page below. http://www.vpracingfuels.com/master-fuels-table

The Secret Weapon is not so secret anymore. The competition has finally adjusted to it pretty good! Last night Justin got 2nd place & should be 2nd in points. It was race #10 of the twelve race series. The last two races will be the end of Aug. & 1st weekend of Sept. It's now shaping up to be a 4 way battle for the championship.
