  1. About two months ago, I tore my ACL while out riding. Knowing that I'd have some downtime, I decided to tear the Banshee down. I had some questions as to how straight the frame was, and figured that I'd pull the engine down and go through it while I had it out. The top end looked decent for a stock '01, but I hate tearing something down and just putting it back together without improving anything. After much debate/research I decided to send the jugs out to Kevin @ Herrjugsracing.com. I called him with my inquiry, and got ahold of him on the first try (it's always a bonus to be able to reach the person in question when you're spending money with them--which is often rare). We spoke for about 30 minutes about the setup I was running, what I used the quad for, and what I was looking to get out of it. After having spoken to him and realizing that he didn't just do "One-size fits all" porting, and wanted to make sure that I got what I wanted, I shipped the jugs out to him Next Day Air, emphasising that although the quad was going to be down for a while, I wanted to get the motor back together before my brother came back down to visit (always have to have an ace up your sleeve when involved in sibling rivalry ;-) ). I shipped the cylinders out on Thursday. On Friday he called me to let me know that he recieved them and was going to start on them right away. Sunday comes around, and I'm at home doing some computer work for my business. I get a call from Kevin saying "I spent the weekend getting these done, and I just want to know how you want them sent back out". I told him "Next Day Air", and sure enough, they arrive at my shop on Tuesday morning. I unpacked them, with thoughts of them looking like some "backyard" porting jobs I've seen that looked like LSD-popping beavers with titanium teeth got ahold of them. However, when I got them out, I was very surprised at the quality of work put into them. The porting was smooth, surface-finished properly, and very symetrical between both jugs. I'm very UN-knowledgeable in the pricinples of 2-stroke ports and their effects, however, own a performance company which builds (on-average) 2-3 4-cylinder, turbocharged, race motors during the busy season, and have done a fair amount of porting on said engines over the last 10 years in the industry, so I know quality workmanship when I see it. I put the engine back together, put it back in the new frame, and called Kevin with some last-minute timing/jetting questions on his work. Once again, I got him on the first call, and he was more then willing to discuss things with me, including some quirks I had with the engine that had nothing to do with what he did, and some advice on different setups for the future. After getting off of the phone, I jetted it to his specs, and started it up. I did a heat-cycle, checked everything, then had my younger brother ride it for a little to break it in. The jetting was a *LITTLE* off, so we dropped the needle back down one notch, rode it some more, then finally ripped into it. The quad is a completely different beast! The midrange (what I was looking for) is MUCH stronger, and the top end picked up quite a bit as well. Instead of it being like an on/off switch with the power, it hits much lower in the rpm range, and pulls very linearly up to the peak with no weird drop-offs. Power-wheelies are now just a flick of the thumb away in 1st/2nd and 3rd, and 4th can easily coax the front up with some midrange pegging of the gas. This is with a stock front, and 41 rear (for reference). Little else to say then "A big thumbs up" to Kevin's business practices, and his work. He'll be recieving 2 more sets of jugs shortly from my younger brother and one of my employees.
  2. Yeah, it just kinda pissed me off that I was going to have to spend quite a few hours fixing stuff, then sending it out to get powdercoated before I could put the bike back together. Water over the damn at this point, but I just hate being blatantly lied to.
  3. I am trying to remember where I said that you needed to provide a dyno graph for me to say that it's not producing high torque #s down low. Oh wait--I didn't. A big single (500cc) two-stroke is going to make *SOME* low-end torque. However, in the bigger scheme of things, it's still not going to compare to a large-bore 4-stroke in that department. Once again, it's all subjective (I guess some people consider 8000rpms "low rpms").
  4. And you think that is low-end torque?? I mean, I know that phrase is a subjective term, but c'mon now...
  5. 91tsiawd on the forum says: "die"
  6. Not to piss on your parade, but if you're the type of domestic-guy (car-wise) that's into stump-pulling-torque, a two-stroke is NOT the way to go. You're not going to get it with this motor--especially on this budget.
  7. You're fine. These frames are mild steel, which actually (in disagreeance with this post) lends itself quite readily to welding without issues. High Carbon steels are the ones that must be welded specifically, and then typically re-heat treated so that they're not made brittle. If these frames were chromium-molybdenum steel (Chromoly), you'd have to be more careful. We do tons of SFI drag cages--the chromoly ones are the ones that take special treatment--mild steel ones are easy as pie. Weld away.
  8. I finally recieved a frame that I purchased from the above seller after waiting since August 11th. Their reason for the delay (when they finally responded after 3 e-mails over the span of a week) was "We wanted to find a strong box so that the item would get there safely". Well, the box got here today, and that's a joke at best. They broke down some smaller, thin boxes and taped them around the frame. For packing, they used some plastic wrap. I think most every bracket on the frame is bent---not that big of a deal, but obviously it was a BS excuse about the delay. On to the frame--it's tweaked, painted (by what looks like a 2 y/o) with silver Krylon, and has some broken off bolts in it. Here's the auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...N:IT&ih=012 : "Please note the description: Hello and welcome! Up for bids today is a Frame from a 2000 banshee. This frame is in mint condition has no broken tabs, bends, welds or stripped threads, Bike has never been crashed or fliped Frame was also just stripped down and professionly painted the same OEM silver but they added some flake, so this frame is a real gem Includes Michigan title and bill of sale Item is in great condition, and is in perfect working ordrer" "Frame was also just stripped down and professionally painted using the same OEM silver, but they added some flake...." Krylon silver is stock OEM? Professionals use Spray Cans? The thing wasn't even close to being "stripped" as the stock paint is still evident all over the place where they didn't hit with their rattlecan. Of course, they're the "If you leave positive feedback, we'll leave positive feedback" and "If you leave negative feedback, we'll leave negative". Buyer Beware....
  9. I bought my Dodge 3500 Cummins 4x4 Ext.Cab, and my Z06 both on Ebay. Both were pretty good experiences. You have to do some research to make sure you're not dealing with a deadbeat/scammer though.
  10. No, actually they don't. They get replaced through surgery and a 9 month healing phase. Cases are like $100-$200 on ebay.
  11. That sucks man. But remember, it could be worse. I'll gladly trade you a new case and put it together for you for a good ACL to replace mine that I tore last Sunday riding.
  12. A cross between that and the "is it gonna start/be safe to ride if it does" look. ;-) I traded my Banshee even-up for it.
  13. You guys are just a bunch of haters. I'm sure if she says that she has $16K into that quad, she's not lying! I'd like to also offer up my ride that I have $12K into (a little less, but I'd be willing to take less money for it as well). Highest bid over $5K takes it:

  15. It is "normally open", which means once the cord is pulled it closes (completes) the circuit. Normal would look like: __ \ inside the switch. Pull the tether, and the circuit is completed, and grounds the ignition.
  16. I run KX Style kills in addition (and always have) on all of my Banshees. Just wire in in parallel with the tether kill---it's wired the same way.
  17. Okay, once again.... Both bikes are identicle. Sprockets: Same--checked immediately Porting: Unless someone found a way to change the ports to no noticeable size difference and also port in a manner that left casting imperfections---stock ports. We've only torn down both bikes to the point of seeing that both sets of pistons are marked "std." and that there has been no porting (head and reed swaps). External to that point, everything is the same. I have thought about the "Blaster piston" aspect, but I thought that the port-alignment had to be changed to get any real gains on this. I suppose I'll have to take a half-hour and tear off the head and do a measurement--along with researching the blaster piston "upgrade". I build race motors/transmissions/cars for a living---not 2 strokes, and like I said, I've been out of 2 strokes for some time now. I was just thinking that I might be missing something here.
  18. Nope, two *identicle* bikes. Everything's been checked to be the same. The only differences are that the slower of the two now has a Nology coil (which made little to no difference). The slower bike has the lighter rider (by about 30lbs), and we've swapped quads with the same results (to rule out rider error). We've run probably 30 times on my 1/4 mile driveway that goes back to my shop with the same results every time. I've seen various bikes run differently before, but never to this extreme of a difference. Everyone that rides his is like "that's pretty quick", then hop on mine and state "WOW! That's a lot quicker!". Just perplexes me. Being that mine is the quicker of the two--I'm definitely not complaining. ;-)
  19. S&W Race Cars are where we pick up all of our gussets for chassis/cages. http://www.swracecars.com/ I don't know if they list them in the catalog, but if you call them they have them in all shapes/sizes.
  20. Sorry, Little-Guy is complaining that his "is a '99". Wahhhh...sorry! Meant "'99 then" not "'98". Waahahhhhhhhhhhh
  21. Weird issue. Both quads had pipes when we bought them---that's it. Both quads are modded with same damn parts ('98 has ignition mods and +1 more timing), yet the '01 in an 1/8th drag pisses all over the '98 (to the tune of at LEAST 4 lengths). Don't get it, the '98 has better compression, less use, etc. I'm not complaining since I own the '01, but this thing is STRONG. I've had 409 Banshees in the past which were faster, but this thing is insane for the mods (v3s, timing plate, Noss head/21 domes, Pro Circuit pipes, Noss Intake kit for the motor) and it's got a TON more low end and lifts on 3rd roll-ons without even trying. CORN-fuzed!
  22. WTF is it? The website looks like it was designed by a 5 year old. I searched all over and couldn't find a decent summary of what it actually is.
  23. Quite neccesary. He's my younger brother, and kicking him around keeps him in line. :yucky: Dave and Jeff have been great though. Dave's machining is top notch as well. We've got two CNCs in-house, so that's coming from someone who has seen a lot of machining.
  24. I've had nothing but good experiences with both Noss and FAST. I've had good luck with the Noss units, haven't used the Vito's yet, so I can't really say anything comparing the two--just that I've had good experiences with Noss and his heads.
  25. Awww...that's sweet. Now let's all have s'mores, and sing Ku Bah Ya. Do you like long walks on the beach as well? In all seriousness. I've dealt with both vendors as well and have had nothing but positive experiences. Noss especially---the guy seemingly wants to update you when the parts are ready, when they've been boxed, when the label has been applied, and when the UPS guy has taken it from the building. You simply DO NOT get service like that these days from anywhere else. My only complaint is that he doesn't make more products for me to buy!
