shouldn`t be any play if the bearings are good and the lock nuts are tight at zero torque. could be the signs of bearings getting ready to go.it`s a good idea to buy pivot bearings and axle bearings at the same time.one time i said to myself, "let me just get one more ride out of these axle bearings". well needless to say i toasted the bearings and burned up the side of my carrier.and i posessed the new bearings.
