How many Canadian riders on BHQ
87_shee replied to Canadarider's topic in General Banshee Discussion
Im just outside Campbellton New Brunswick. I would love to go to silver lake but like Tim C says its a little to far for me. -
DONT buy them. I did when i did my last rebuild and every single one leaked and it caused me alot of headache. I bought all OEM gaskets after that and it didnt leak a drop of anything. K&S = junk... just my .02
-
My buddy just had his frame done Black and I find it looks good with the blue fenders. Not the greatest picture but it gives and idea.
-
Yes you can buy these, I just got 2 of them from my local stealership, only cost $4.44, and if you dont have them they WILL leak coolent.
-
Thanks for the replys, Im glad to hear that they are reliable. I will make sure I check it over good before i buy. How is the power in one of these...Do they have much more bottom end then a shee? Im assuming the powerband is much smoother then a shee? Does anyone know any sites similar to the HQ but for R's? I have lots of questions, but i would rather read and find out for myself rather then constantly asking questions about it on a site for that is specifically for shees.

Guess i should have been more clear. Its a honda and it has been completely rebuilt. New crank, 20 over with wiseco, mild port , fmf fatty, v-force 2, Rebuilt works dual rate front and rear, New chain, sprockets, guides and case saver, durablue +2, fresh powdercoat frame, new maier balck pastics, Anti vibe stem, terry cable throtle , new tires on beadlocks and 2 sets of spare tire and rims, steering satbilizer(not sure what kind), fresh brakes all around, new bearings. Comes with an extra cylinder and a head that has been modded for high compression. Probably more than that but thats all i can think of. He wants 2500 but I know I can beat him down lower than that. I relize how old it is, but my shee is a 87 and was a complete piece of shit when i got it and i paid 1000 for it and had to completly rebuild it. So you say the hondas are pretty reliable? I would like to be able to put skidplates and a oversize tank and make this my trail bike, rather then spending all that money trying to make my shee more woods friendly. How are they power wise? Most of my riding buddys have raptors and 450s , How would the 250 keep up with those? I was thinkin about buying a 4 poke for trails, but i am a die hard 2 stroke fan and would much rather add an R to my collection than a 4 poke. To me there is no better feelin that smoking someone on a new hightech 450 with my 20 year old 2 stroke...

I know it has nothing to do with banshee's but the HQ seems to be the best site for info I have found yet so bare with me. Well I've been looking at a 250r thats around here for a while now and I'm thinking about buying it in the spring. I Don't know alot about them, and that is the only one i know of around here. So my question is to those of you that have or had one. I keep hearing that they are very unreliable and tend to blow up alot. Is there any truth to that? I know I heard that about banshees but if properley maintained & looked after I find my banshee to be very reliable. Do you think I am just going to have a constant headache with this or should it be pretty tough? I plan to use it as a trail bike, so it would have to be able to withstand rides that can be more than a few hours long. Any input would be appreciated. Also does anyone know any forums where I could do some reading about them?

What grit do you think i should use? Clymers say 600, i searched on here someone said use 240 grit.?

Hey guys.. Well I got my cylinders back and have been having some trouble getting everything to seal right. I had bought some cheap ass gaskets on ebay and I guess you get what you pay for, because they were junk every single one leaked, causing the motor to hydrolock after about 2 seconds. Also the rubber plugs were all F***ed up so I got some new ones along with some new yamaha gaskets and I cleaned all of the mating surfaces and put everything back together, torqed everything in increments to the specs in my clymers, started it up and its still leaking. When I started It, It was blowing out the Radiator overflow hose so i know its my head gasket not sealing right..but its also dripping a little bit from the base of the cylinders. So my question is could my head and cylinders be warped? If so what can I do about it? Does resurfacing with sand paper like it says in the clymer work? I seized a bearing on the crank in august but would that have caused things to warp? Sorry for the long post... i just want to get this thing fixed ::

I just put my chain on my sprocket and bind it up like it was goin to to bust your case. Should stop that inner hub from turning. There may be a better way .. but this worked fine for me.

Hey guys.. I just picked up a set of cylinders that are currently at 65.5mm bore and A set of 66mm pro lites. It may be a stupid question but can stock cylinders be bored to 66mm or is that to big for the stock sleeves. The reason I am asking is because around here there are only 2 places to get my cylinders bored and 1 guy says that they can be bored with no problem and the other says they can't. So i figured somebody on here would be able to give me a straight answer. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the replys, but I guess I should have been more clear in my first post. I split the cases a while back now (Thanks to BigRed) and marked everything in ziplocs so I shouldn't have lost anything. Also the frist thing I did when my new crank came was get it trued and welded. I was more or less looking for any little adjustments or things that i should pay special attention to during reasembly. Thanks

Well im finally getting around to rebuilding my motor from the bottom up with all new bearings, seals, New crank, 66mm pro lites. This is my first time rebuilding a banshee motor, but after countless hours reading through the Hq and my clymers, I now have the confindence to do it my self. I have rebuilt a few sled motors so i have a general idea of what to do. I was just wondering if you guys have any tips or any little things i should pay special attention to, because i know there are a few members on here that could do it with there eyes closed. Thanks

Im not 100% sure but I think those are the same plugs as my 87 ....I will check later on tonight when I get home.

Banshee Parts for sale on Ebay

how much for tranny? -
New Brunswick

Where do all you Canadian guys but your parts...I usually go ebay but it can get expensive with all the extra border costs and not to mention all the scammers and my Stealership is no better.. I am currently rebuilding a motor and would like to add a coolhead but they want 500$$ at the local Yamaha.....Seems way to expensive for me. Do I have any other options?

Hey guys.. Might be a stupid question but I just need a second opinion. My buddy just purchased a 03 shee with port&polish(not sure who did it) , head milled and FMF fattys. Anyways I cleaned his carbs for him and i noticed its only got a 240 main in it. Is it just me or is this way to small. The bike runs great and the plugs are nice and brown, but I run a similar set up except i have knarlys instead of fattys and I run a 280 main and my plugs are as close to perfect as they get. So should he bump up the main or leave it like it is? Oh yeah were both at sea level and run a airbox with lid, he has K&N and I have UNI

I have a +2 swinger from checkered flag and i have 0 complaints about it so far. I ride pits and hills and road most of the time but it has held up just fine for the 6 months I've had it. I think it would be fine for the average casual rider. But I have heard many bad things about the from other ppl on here...so maybe i just got lucky

Thanks, yes i have a clymers, I just need to get some batteries for my ohm meter to test evrything. I have new plug caps and wires so i know its not that. I already cut all the crap out of the wire harness, just have a vito's kill switch. I hope its somthing simple i already fried a CDI last month.
-
Well my bike has been working fine for the whole summer except a fried CDI (water), so I left for a ride today and not even 100 ft out of my driveway it just shut off. So i check my plugs for spark and they only spark somtimes. I have all the tors shit cut out and i have tested the whole harness for continuity and all the wires are good...Could this be my CDI again?
