ive heard that those bigger rads cool so well that some people block off a portion of it during the winter to reach an acceptable water temperature. thats a problem i wouldnt mind.
actaully an IC engine runs better at a higher temp. thats the reason for a thermostat in a car. its so that the water temps get where they need to be quickly. not so your heater gets warm.
upon checking out an '05 yesterday heres what to look for.
The 9 digit motor serial, its just to the left of the clutch arm on the top motor case. really visible from the left side.
The 17 digit VIN, its exact spot varies on the frame from between the lower a-amr mount to under the left foot peg mount. look there. if its not there make sure youre frame hasnt been powder coated. I know when i had mine PC'ed it covered up my VIN and I can't find it anymore, even knowing where it is I cant find it.
if you do find the whole thing heres a chart for your help.

take the serial # on your motor case to a dealer, they can cross reference the numbers to give you a produtcion year. but you should really have 17 numbers. that bike wasnt extra cheap was it? haha.
the round slides are screw top, i believe the flatslides are not. and yes its two micro fine super easy to strip, screws to remove the jet.
Checked the sudco diagram, The flatslides have a rectangular top, its held on by two philips head fasteners.
