In your head assuming u have aftermartket.. Mine is aftermarket w/O-rings not ,gasket!

All it will do is circulate " spelling?" water boils at 216 degree... It could be possible that the o-ring is bad... If u have oil coming out your exhaust "I have this problem" not pouring but dripping. It has to be a seal or reeds, or rings! My problem was reeds... my buddies problem was rings.. hope this helps?

Yes, it can... I always wash mine w/ open end water hose...hand wash,w/ sponge. Cover the air filter w/plastic! plug the end of silencers.
