  1. Wow that's fast. I wonder if I'd ever see that kind of speed in the 1/4!
  2. Nice stuff! How fast can you go on those scooter tires though? I want to run 1/4 mile? Anybody ever hear of a bad experience using those small scooter tires?
  3. Looking to get something a little "safer" for 1/4 mile runs instead of my 9 year old bald factory tires/rims. I heard of some people getting some front narrow rims w/scooter tires, but I don't know what they are rated for, or if they work just fine for high speed. What is everyone using for front tire/rim setups on asphalt? Thanks!
  4. I used to run Av gas in my turbo sled until the damn arabs screwed things up on 9/11. After that nobody would sell av gas to anyone w/out a plane. I ran it 50/50 and it seemed to actually be better on gas that way. Straight av must evaporate faster or something. My plugs always had a yellow powdery look to them. Funky. Smelled good though!
  5. Wow! Keep us posted on those cheetah times! I'm jealous!
  6. Yeah. These kids put in their octane boosters and like you said 91+.7=91.7 . They think it is more like 91+7=98. I don't use it.
  7. Well, with the race logic porting templates done as instructed, I would say that bottom end is the same as stock to a touch better, mid and top are not a comparison to stock. You must put some heavy duty clutch springs in if your banshee is all stock. I ran an identical banshee w/same fmf pipes, filter, etc, and it just walked away with no problem in just a short run on dirt. The longer you go the farther it would be. Then, I got some T-5 pipes and ran it at the local strip. There just happened to be another banshee there that looked just like mine and identical setup, except he had a cool head (mine was stock), v-force reeds (mine stock), and he had 20" tires. I have heavy 22" 6-ply holeshots on blaster rims, and when we ran, he pulled 15.854 @ 75.79mph in the 1/4, and I pulled 14.223@85.20mph. The porting works nice. I have tweeked the porting here and there more towards drag and have dropped more than another second off and 7more mph. The templates are very trailable.
  8. It might be like $35-$40 or somewhere around that neighborhood.
  9. Nikasil plating holds up to wear better than a cast iron sleeve. Nikasil usually is plated on an aluminum bore to give the wear resistance, yet the plating is very thin, and the heat can dissipate through the aluminum easily. As far as I know you can put nikasil plating on a cast iron sleeve, but that is senseless. Most snowmobiling technology went to aluminum/nikasil cylinders years ago, and performance is definately up. The expensive aftermarket cylinders of course are nikasiled. I have used the swain coating on my pistons and after 1,000 miles (1 month of snowmobile riding) the friction fighting coating on the piston skirts was still like it had never been run...very impressed. I am going to bore my banshee to the next size piston over this winter, and am definately going to get the piston coated from "Swain Coatings" like I did my sled.
  10. Yeah. My brother ran the Ultimate 4 (oxygenated fuel) and the last time he used it, was months ago. You can still smell that stuff coming out of the pores of the overflow tube or something! It does make more power than regular pump gas or octane boosters, but for the money, alky seems to be more worth it. I converted my stock carbs to alky and that really makes a difference! The water temp is even cooler.
  11. The race logic templates work nice! A worthwhile investment even at full price. Just make sure you have a 90 degree tool to raise the transfers the way he says. The owner is a great guy also. Highly recommended.
  12. What kind of rear tires are good for dirt drags? I have some 20" ITP holeshots to try, but don't know if they are good enough to do battle against the other types. They are brand new so they probably aren't too bad, but what does everybody else run for dirt drags? Thanks!
  13. Looks like that'd be pretty fun, but I think those guys would be a little more aero-dynamic if they wore helmets. I was at the drag strip and they had a couple young guys running grudge runs on their crotch rockets doing wheelies and stalling off the line, and not under very good control, and none of them had helmets on! I know the new helmet law lets you drive on the road without them now, but if you are going to race and try and purposely do crazy holeshots and go as fast as you can, I think it only makes sense to use a skid lid. If I were the dragstrip owner, I don't think I'd allow bikes to run without helmets. Somebody's mommy would take his dragstrip away when their kid comes home in a box! I just feel riding through trails and drag racing, helmets are smart. I love going fast, but once you have your own family, you look at thing a little different I guess.
  14. I'm not comparable to the guys on this website (yet) but I've made small gains with every change I've made so far. Right now my best is 60ft-1.902, 1/8 et-7.972 @ 82.55, 1/4 et-13.122@92.82. I know what I can do next, but it won't get me to these other guys' times. Still runs good though.
  15. Well, I went to the drag strip today (asphalt), and pulled my best times yet, but I was still hoping for a few tenths better. Granted, I am still on my stock 1995 bald front tires and rims, and have 22" ITP 6-ply holeshots w/blaster rims on the rear, but I expected a little more on my new setup. My setup...350 stock stroke and bore (bore actually .020" over, but has .007-.009 piston clearance (slop!)), compression 145psi, alky, 12* advance, 34mm PJs, CPI inframes, drag porting (specs that CPI actually gave me), stock length swingarm w/homemade wheelie bar. Gearing 16/41. Spun like hell from the launch most every time. Towards the end, I started sitting back just a little, putting the wheelie bar to the test and got some better holeshots, but when I did that, I tried 3 times to shift into 5th and it wouldn't shift. The last run I did, same thing, but tried twice to get into 5th and wouldn't take. Shifting near 10,500 didn't help mesh the gears either! Here was my best time before I did good holeshots but couldn't shift...reaction- .652 sec, 60ft-1.902, 1/8 et-7.972 @ 82.55, 1/4 et-13.122@92.82. I'm happy with it, but really might have seen the 12's if my last 2 runs w/good hooking holeshots would have shifted! Here's what I don't understand...My stock banshee carbs on alky have .120" mains w/ a turn or two open on the adjustable powerjets, and to get the egts up to the same temps, the 34mm's had to get the mains dropped down to .100", and the adj powerjets closed! How in the world is it that to get the same egt temps, that the 34's don't have bigger mains?! It doesn't make sense to me! And to top it off, I saw no noticeable power difference from the stock alky carbs to the 34's. It does run good, but I can't believe the 34s arent making a worthwhile difference. Confused!>!>!EO@$(!@#$#%! (#50 pilots, wicked atv expensive needles on leanest clip, neelde jets .125" .100" mains, powerjets closed)
  16. I was focusing more at the circle around the one missing stud on the right cylinder. I hope it's not a deep scuff. Got to keep them gaskets honest, but don't really want to put 'em to the test if you know what I mean.
  17. I've run the 22" holeshots on the back and they really helped me in not getting stuck in ruts, and blast throught the mud pretty good too. Good improvement over stock. That way it still handles half way decent. If you put 25" on the back, I'm not sure how the front stockers would work with that combo. Never tried that setup. Sometimes a couple extra inches is too much. Just ask my wife!
  18. I finally got my hands on a clutch lock up, and will now have to machine my cover to fit it in. It looks as if there might be a problem with the clearance around the footpeg. Could somebody post or send me a picture of there setups w/the lockup, or give me some pointers/dimensions on how to fit it in? Thanks!
  19. I'll still be running the 1/4, so I better keep the 6th. Gearing/tire combo might be a little tough otherwise!
  20. If I try and convert my 2-4 override into a 1-5, will I not have a sixth gear, or is that just how some people just make them? Otherwise I will try to make my 2-4 into a 1-4. Thanks!
  21. That's a lot better than a 9.9! It didn't say how heavy the guy was in the magazine, but maybe he lacked a little experience.
  22. Well, I am re-porting my 350 right now for drag only on alky. For you guys (or gals) who have actually ran an RZ350 tranny, do you recommend running the RZ tranny for asphalt, or would a banshee tranny w/2-4 override be better? I have both sitting in the garage, and will probably try w/stock tranny as is first, but then put one of the others in. If the RZ is prefered, maybe I'd make that into and override also, but don't know if a 1-4 is better than a 2-4 if I start always in first gear? Thanks for your experienced info!!!!!
  23. Dirt Wheels, December 2002, page 246... DS650, 1/8th mile, his best run that day was 9.9 seconds at 65.5 mph. I'd guess you would beat that by almost a second and maybe 5ish mph, depending on your total setup/gearing.
