I never had any issues with mine getting hot, I think you may have another problem somewhere in the cooling system, the cylinders will hold alot more water than the stockers will also. So when you put the cubs on it just magnified your existing problem. Is your radiator in good shape? is it old? anything that might be restricting coolant flow?

They can wrap the studd to keep the powder off the threads, its some funky tape that resists heat.
