Stroked2000banshee Posted July 30, 2008 Report Posted July 30, 2008 When I start my banshee the motor makes a ticking noise noice when rev it up goes faster. what is it still runs fine when im riding around or laying into it, its just about to drive me nuts Quote
Bansh-eman Posted July 30, 2008 Report Posted July 30, 2008 what part of the motor is it coming from? how fast does it tick? does it soud like metal on metal? there needs to be alot more details other then it's clicking what is it? Quote
Stroked2000banshee Posted July 30, 2008 Author Report Posted July 30, 2008 sound like it coming from the top part of the engine sounds like what a lifter would sound like on a car ticking and is jsut a normal tick tick tick while the motor is running Quote
Bansh-eman Posted July 30, 2008 Report Posted July 30, 2008 have you recently changed anything to the motor? and it just start happening out of the blue? list your mods, and if you have a compression tester get a good static psi and post along with your elevation Quote
Stroked2000banshee Posted July 30, 2008 Author Report Posted July 30, 2008 Honestly it my first banshee mods to it are i know its stroked to around 390cc diff carbs head ported and polished, i just got it i know the guy used to race it in the dirt in 300ft, said it would run in the 4's but could still take it trail riding if he wanted know none of this is helping i will need to contact him and ask him i know it was freshened up about 2 years ago but the guy doesn't have much run time on it, Quote
Bansh-eman Posted July 30, 2008 Report Posted July 30, 2008 its a little difficult to help find a culprit with knowing what could be out of wack. has it done it the whole time u have had it? Quote
Stroked2000banshee Posted July 30, 2008 Author Report Posted July 30, 2008 i never really noticed it till i started it and was letting it run for a few, i think im going to take it to the yamaha shop and see if they can tell, do these engine have lifters on them just curious wondering if maybe they need reset or something.like i said it drives fine doesn't hesite or anthing thing gets up and goes when you lay into it. Bansh-eman Posted July 30, 2008 Report Posted July 30, 2008 dont take it to a stealership. those guys are for the most part stupid asses. No 2 stroke has any cams or lifters. they use reeds and transfer ports to operate. lookup 2 stroke on wikipedia it will hel you get an idea of how they work. Quote

2strokespirit Posted August 1, 2008 Report Posted August 1, 2008 (edited) Clicking sounds, sounds like piston to cylinder wall clearance are to big. Maybe needs a top end rebuild. Could be anything though... Edited August 1, 2008 by 2strokespirit Quote
CadillacBanshee Posted August 1, 2008 Report Posted August 1, 2008 Clicking in the cylinders usually comes from worn out piston rings. Check your compression and have fun rebuilding. david Quote
LiftdT4R Posted August 1, 2008 Report Posted August 1, 2008 Yeah, pull the head and take look. For $15 for a gasket and $10 for coolant it's well worth it, easy to do too. For the $25 and 4 hours it will take to check it, I would much rather do that then rebuild a seized up engine. Also, you may want to do a compression test. Like the above poster said if your rigns are on their way out that could be one cause. Lower then normal compression will tell you this. It's not hard to do either as long as you have a compression tester. These 2 simple steps could save you a lot of time later on!! Quote
mdhc500 Posted August 1, 2008 Report Posted August 1, 2008 Yeah, if that tick turns into a rattle dont be womping on it... If they are cast pistons you could have a skirt coming apart or something doin with the pistons/rings... My neighbor learned the hard way with his blaster... Just tear it down and take a look...
