J-Madd Posted June 3, 2008 Report Posted June 3, 2008 Here is my opinion about a duneable... Just ride it like a normal tranny all the time, until you drag race... That is the advantage on an overide is racing... If you are too lazy to clutch to shift all the time you are probably on the wrong kind of bike anyway. If you ride it normal till you race, they will last fine. Not clutching to (up) shift would make no difference on the override, be it trail riding or drag racing. Backloading the tranny is the question Maybe you're saying to still clutch to downshift and decellerate whle trail riding, which I would agree with. But it has been said that you CAN backload the dunable like a normal tranny, I just choose not to on mine. Quote
Bansh-eman Posted June 3, 2008 Report Posted June 3, 2008 I can not remember where i read it at but some where along the ways it was decided that backloading is fine under 8,000 RPM Quote
gregrob Posted June 3, 2008 Author Report Posted June 3, 2008 Greg, im alittle concerned that you want to take a full blown drag bike and detune it to run dunes but the dunable override would probably be alot better for your style riding. I think you would like the powerband ALOT better on a Dune/Play port motor for what your trying to do but maybe im wrong...? I dont think WCR has a sight at this time but Andy @ MM and i both keep Dunables on hand if we can help. Why would you be concerned? I understand the differences between dune porting and drag porting and have definitely considered that. If I can't stand the powerband I can always get a set of stock cylinders and have them dune ported. I also know I may need to play with different domes to get a compression that works good for long dune rides as opposed to 300' rips. I don't know which direction I'm going at the moment, if I have fun with it as a drag bike I may leave it as it sits. If it isn't seeing use I'll turn it into a duner. If that happens the lowered front shocks, rear marvin shaw, narrow axle, drag bars, and lack of front brakes will be the first things to go... Thanks for the help, may be calling you for a WCR... No Limit Powersports Posted June 3, 2008 Report Posted June 3, 2008 Greg cuts all my trannys for us and let me tell you we have beat the snot out of them for over 2 years now with over 30 trannys out there and only 1 came back with a broken shift fork and it may or may not of been the trannys fault and that was after 2 years on the same tranny. With the way my customers ride these trannys and the way they have been holding up i see no advantage to a stock tranny over these duneables. You can rip like normal, downshift, whatever and they just keep on ticking. Quote
wesw Posted June 4, 2008 Report Posted June 4, 2008 word of advice. dont backload it. wcr might say you can but its only a matter of time before your shift forks will start to get chewed down and burnt. if you slow down pull in the clutch. you can get away with it at low rpms. again just a word of advise.
