NN2 Posted May 28, 2008 Report Posted May 28, 2008 Reason I ask is because I was told by a known banshee builder (in my area) that 2nd gear launches will burn up a clutch fast. He said 1st should only be used. Also, when you guys are feathering your clutch to ride out wheelies, how long does your clutch hold before slipping? I did some riding a few weeks ago and was trying to practice on riding out wheelies but that pretty much ended my clutch. Any thoughts would be great. Thanks Quote
theshee Posted May 28, 2008 Report Posted May 28, 2008 Depends on the bike... If you are capeable of launching in 2nd its better, because its 1 less shift. If you dont have enough power to do so though, 1st is better so you dont screw stuff up. Most drag bikes dont even have 1st gear, a lot of overides are 2-5 overides so 1st isnt even an option. Quote
XxMeltIcexX Posted May 28, 2008 Report Posted May 28, 2008 2nd gear especially if you dont have any shift mods... Quote
theshee Posted May 28, 2008 Report Posted May 28, 2008 2nd gear especially if you dont have any shift mods... Thats very true, sucks when you hit neutral instead of 2nd... Quote
SQUIRREL MASTER Posted May 28, 2008 Report Posted May 28, 2008 Thats very true, sucks when you hit neutral instead of 2nd... yup that really sucks especially if your pinned. Quote
XxMeltIcexX Posted May 28, 2008 Report Posted May 28, 2008 yup that really sucks especially if your pinned. Its sucks even more if you jam it back into gear while your still revved Quote
STINKYDELUXE Posted May 28, 2008 Report Posted May 28, 2008 3rd gear ...but i'm using 10 paddle haulers with a 521 i just spin in 2nd. not the best setup When I buy new tires i'll go back to 2nd Quote
06BaNsHeE Posted May 28, 2008 Report Posted May 28, 2008 Depends where your riding. On the asphault or street only 1st Quote
bansheejoel Posted May 28, 2008 Report Posted May 28, 2008 for your mods i would probably launch in 2nd. I did a few 1st gear launches up at silver and got smoked by alot of quads then did 2nd gear launches and beat alot of quads that beat me when i did 1st gear. I dont feather the clutch when i wheelie i just put her in 3rd get almost to the powerband let off a little then hit it to pull up the front then feather the throttle as much as needed to hold the front end up. i agree with 06banshee, on streets i would only do 1st gear launches. i only do 2nd in sand b/c 1st spins like a bitch Quote
SQUIRREL MASTER Posted May 29, 2008 Report Posted May 29, 2008 Its sucks even more if you jam it back into gear while your still revved ouch. Quote
locogato11283 Posted May 29, 2008 Report Posted May 29, 2008 my 10mm motor always takes out in 2nd gear. i seriously doubt im burning up any clutches with my lockout.. i dont think that known builder knows what the fuck hes talking about. Quote

sheerider1026 Posted May 29, 2008 Report Posted May 29, 2008 i leave in 3rd and sometimes in 4th.. depends on the track.. its gonna spin anyway so waht the hell?? i did fry my clutch over the weekend launching it in 4th though.. i have a 392 cub.. when i launch in 4th it never boggs, just screms like a mofo!! dajogejr Posted May 29, 2008 Report Posted May 29, 2008 It depends on the length of the race, tire size, gearing, surface, etc. 2nd gear is most common. Quote
