robert.b.west Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 I am going trail riding and I can carry a one gallon tank with me and there are gas stations along the way but my compression is about 155-160 psi and need higher than 93 octane which I am assuming that is all the gas stations will have. Will I be able to buy an octane booster and get away with it. Quote
Bansh-eman Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 octane boosters are a waste, just buy you a few gallons of race gas or av gass and mix it. Quote

I am taking race gas with me but we go for long rides and can stop at gas stations. Most gas stations don't carry race fuel. On another note I was looking at other posts and they said they mix xylene with there pump gas anyone still do this and has it caused any problems. (Just out of curiosity) Quote
Animalman294 Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 I wouldn't trust the octane boost, because it wont be consistant. I would just take like a two gallon container full of race fuel or AV 100LL and when you get to the gas station pour half of it in and fill the rest of the tank with 93. At the next station do the same thing, it wont be dead on but it will be close to 50/50 which should work out for ya. Unless you can figure out a more accurate way to measure the 50/50 part, but over on the higher octane wont hurt anything............ Quote
okbeast Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 Unless you're really high elevation i would think 93 would be ok on that compression, at least it has been on some bikes in the group of guys i ride with. Quote

I am at somewhere between 600 and 700 feet. I will just do what I can with the gallon of fuel that I can carry and hope it is enough to get back. lol Quote
tnGRbanshee Posted April 18, 2008 Report Posted April 18, 2008 im at about same elevation and where we rarely go riding its like that there are a few gas stations ive filled up with 93 and finished riding the rest of day .ive done it several times never hurt mine .but ive never done it when the temp is over 80 .octane booster is a complete waste of money, i would almost bet on a dyno or any other way could anybody prove you gain anything but a loss of about 10 bucks. spend your money on 12 pack instead ,money well spent Quote
