NitroTate Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 So I'm trying to replace that bolt that holds your rear brake caliper to the swingarm because it's the ONLY thing that is jacked up on the rear brake. YAMAHA DOESN'T SELL IT SEPERATELY!! You have to buy the whole damn caliper for near $300. just to get a $2. bolt! Guess I'm pulling out the "Fabricator Hat" for a day... Quote
Bansh-eman Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 (edited) tate, get the tread pitch and bolt size and go to Fastnal or Grainger and buy the bolts. if they dont have them they will oder them. I did the same thing for serveral specialty bolts. http://www.fastenal.com/web/locations.ex?a...nver&state= Edited April 2, 2008 by Bansh-eman Quote

I did the same thing for serveral specialty bolts. I pretty sure it's too "special". It's that odd one that goes through the boot and has an allen head with the groove for the boot to sit in and the threads are downsized quite a bit from the diameter of the bolt itself. Know what I mean? Quote
Bansh-eman Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 oh your not talking about the bot that hold it to the mount but the one that screw through the caliper... they could make it but it wouldnt be cheap. just buy a caliper off ebay, or talk to Jon ( NYUK ) he would have all that shit Quote
dajogejr Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 If NYUK doesn't have it...minkia38 will. Quote
NitroTate Posted April 2, 2008 Author Report Posted April 2, 2008 I was going to get the whole caliper from Minkia38 but don't have the cash right now. If one of you guys has the bolt that would be great! I'll check with them. What happened was the sleeve that is pressed into the caliper rusted to the bolt and I ended up having to use a press to get the bolt out. It took almost 3 tons to get the damn thing out and then what happened is the bolt and the sleeve stayed together and the sleeve/bolt came out of the caliper!! I got the sleeve off and salvaged it but the bot is chewed the hell up and since I'm on such a budget I'm trying to just get the bolt. Quote
trex banshee Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 we kinda ran into that same problem. My cousins rear brake caliper mounts holes were stripped out. Well like you found out you cannot buy just the bracket. Quote

NYUK Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 suzuki does sell the bolt seperate. locate a zilla or lt 250 parts finder. and get the part number from the exploded view. same caliper and mounts. Quote
inthemail Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 good to know, i was about to take my caliper apart for pc. does this happen often?? thanks jon for the word on the fact LT had the same caliper. im happy to have a fastenal outlet in my town, i never knew what they did tho. (fasten all apparently) would they be the best spot to have my hardware matched and replaced? Quote
NitroTate Posted April 3, 2008 Author Report Posted April 3, 2008 I got it straightened out last night temporarily. So my wife's shee has rear brakes again. It will hold solid for now and the only risk is that the boot is no longer on it so over a long period of time it could rust again but I'll have a new one by then. Thanks for the help guys, and I'll definitely order that Suzuki one as soon as I can. Quote

Know what I mean? I think Cascade sells new caliper pins (the bolt you are talking about). :geek: Quote
