screamningthrottlebanshee Posted March 30, 2008 Report Posted March 30, 2008 Hey guys, ran the shee out on the dunes last week, and it would only fire on 2 cylinders 50% of the time, I took it in to Yamaha and they spend 4 hours looking at it and couldnt figure it out, the put in a new coil and wires, cdi box and looked at the wiring harness, they said my stator is in rough shape but it either works of it dosent... any ideas to what it could be thanks Quote
trapp350 Posted March 30, 2008 Report Posted March 30, 2008 Would it only get spark to both cylinders 50% of the time or run on both cylinders 50% of the time? Quote

trapp350 Posted March 30, 2008 Report Posted March 30, 2008 If it was running only 1 cylinder 50% of the time you have to narrow it down to either fuel issue, compression, or spark then work the problem. Sence the dealer already checked most of your electrical I would start with the other stuff. What does your spark plugs look like? Do a compression check in both cylinders. Clean your carbs and check your float level one of your carbs could be adjusted wrong and your running your float bowl dry. I would imagine the dealer ohmed out all your electrical components but who knows I would do that to if I where you. But like I said I would check out the fuel system and compression then rule them out and then work on the electrical gremlin Quote

The fuel is off but do you guys run your banshees out of gas before storing it for a few weeks??? It ran on 1 cylinder out of the trailer and into the garage, now it wont even start? Just wondering if it could be flooded? Quote
Animalman294 Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 I run mine out of fuel everytime I know I'm not going to run it for a few weeks. Mine is doing something similar but the right plug is white and the left plug is brown on the plug chop. I think that mine is either in the coil or my plugs wires may be screwed up. Still have to tinker with mine to narrow it down, but in your case you are going to have to check things and recheck things. It's a pain in the a$$, but you will eventually find it......... Quote

Sounds like the same problem. plugs are white and one brown but its strange that i have spark on both cylinders... humm banshees Quote
tidos76 Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 we had the same problem this weekend. we replace the cdi, coil, plugs, stator, still no workie. but we finally figured it out....check your reeds. we pulled them out and one petal was broken in half. I thought it was the coil. my bike acted the same when i had a bad coil. but i guess you can get the same symptoms with 2 diff problems. i'd say you have a reed issue Quote

I have spark. Reeds are in the carbs correct? sorry i am still new at banshees and atv world and still learning Quote
tidos76 Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 the reeds are between you intake boots( rubber that your carbs go into) and your cylinders. you can usually just take your carbs ou and look in with a flashlight. but i perfer just to take them off and inspect them. there is 4 bolts holding the rubber boots anr reeds in on each side. Troubledsol Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 I had a similar problem on mine only ran right at like certain rpms and I found the problem my crank was bent just slightly found a used Hot Rods and it runs like a champ Quote

Left side of the pipe is smokin hot and the right side is cold. Quote
ziegman Posted April 3, 2008 Report Posted April 3, 2008 Check the gap on your pickup coil should be 15 thousandths. Also make sure your choke crossover tube is in place between the carbs, and make sure the slides are not in backwards Quote
Animalman294 Posted April 3, 2008 Report Posted April 3, 2008 On mine the reeds are brand new only been out on them twice in the sand, so I doubt it is that, plus compression is at 185 both sides. It is sparking on what I call the dead side, but the plug is white. I also notice that when I run the bowls out the right side takes longer to drain the bowl down. I'll have to check the gap and my coil/wires............. Quote
