sa3ood_banshee Posted March 11, 2008 Report Posted March 11, 2008 (edited) yo guyz im planning on porting by tha end of this summer, and my builder said that ill need a cool head and some other parts is that true??? i no ill need pipes ,filter.wat else? im thinking of goin with a drag port, are there any con's about drag porting,i really wanna stomp modded yfz's and raptor 700's,what ya'll think.i want tha sleeper look ,no modded chassis or swing arm want my shee to look normal and slow, but tha inside should be monstrous.thnx and i dont feel like spending a fortune sa3ood Edited March 11, 2008 by sa3ood_banshee Quote
Dinner Posted March 11, 2008 Report Posted March 11, 2008 IMO, It's going to be a bit hard to keep your shee looking stock while having all this power. Unless you gear it fairly tall, your front end will be coming off the ground in every gear with the stock swinger. And with that taller gearing, you wont pull as fast so you'll lose races. A drag port is made for well dragging. Is that ALL you do, or do you ride in other terrain as well? Quote
sa3ood_banshee Posted March 12, 2008 Author Report Posted March 12, 2008 actually me and my buddies go duning and verry ocationally drag on street, just one drag race, well i want my shee to be amayzing for play, but when it comes to racing it should be first,is that possible? thnx sa3ood Quote
Dinner Posted March 12, 2008 Report Posted March 12, 2008 Hmm sounds to me like some sort of Dune Port would be better for you. A drag port wouldn't have the low end that you would want I don't think. Quote

dajogejr Posted March 12, 2008 Report Posted March 12, 2008 Impossible to answer. IT depends on how modded they are, how good of a rider you and they are.... One man's dune port is another's drag port...etc. You want sleeper looks but world class drag race power.... you didn't just bake a cake and try to eat it too??? LOL. Something has to give. You're going from a stock motor, stock piped banshee....to a ported bike with pipes. I'd get bigger carbs too. Those mods alone could EASILY double your HP output...but you have to get it to the ground as said with gearing, swingarm, suspension and tires.... Quote
05Special Posted March 12, 2008 Report Posted March 12, 2008 I run an "aggressive dune port".. just depends on how you ride... I lost some low end but when the power comes in on top in comes on VERY hard...I ride mostly gravel pits... If your riding trails just ge a mild port...With a few light mods you should take a 450...just don't under estimate them....I have sen some BAD 450's around... Quote
sa3ood_banshee Posted March 12, 2008 Author Report Posted March 12, 2008 k nice info here,i might get a drag port maybe ,planning on swingarm ,cabs .... but can i ask a really dumb question? wats mid top .low end and tha other stuff, i mean i no wats top end and bottom end,but im talking about tha speed thingy thnx and sorry for tha dumb question sa3ood Quote
dajogejr Posted March 12, 2008 Report Posted March 12, 2008 Low, mid, top are characteristics of where the power starts to come on. Typically, a true drag port has NO bottom end. Very little mid, and all the power comes on top...or in other words, near the peak RPMs. Drag bikes run Wide Open. You get the most power out of a drag port. However....the RPM range you make that power is very narrow...but it can be...because it's held Wide Open from start to finish. It's a trade off. Banshees by nature, have very little bottom, average mid but great top end power. A builder can coax more power out of the cylinders at a given RPM...usually at the sacrifice of another range. An MX port usually has good low power, good mid, but will not pull as many RPMs up top...and won't make the majority of the power there... Dune port is kinda in between a drag and mx/trail port. Not much bottom, strong mid...but still retains pretty good power on top and revs out OK. When we say bottom, mid and Top, it refers to the RPM range the motor is turning. There is no set number... But for example. Say your bike revs to 10,000 RPM. I'd consider bottom to be from idle to about 4500 RPM, mid from 4500 to 7000, top from there on up... Not all motors will rev to 10,000 RPM, some will rev higher... It's a combo of the intakes, pipes, porting, compression and timing....as well as fuel type...that determine these factors. Quote
