tidos76 Posted February 19, 2008 Report Posted February 19, 2008 i have some fmf fatties they are in ok shape but are slowly starting to rust. I'm thinking about painting them flat black to match the bike, my question is will normal high heat engine paint stick and stay? and what kind of prep do i need to do? Quote
ny98banshee350 Posted February 19, 2008 Report Posted February 19, 2008 u will def need to scuff them up, clean them reall good try a metal primer first then paint a buddy with a shee had his t5s pc black thats the way i would go if i were u much nicer and worth the $$$ Quote
badassbanshee479 Posted February 19, 2008 Report Posted February 19, 2008 high temp paint will work, just make sure to find the highest temp paint you can get. the head pipe down by the cylinder get hot as hell! Quote
inthemail Posted February 19, 2008 Report Posted February 19, 2008 i used some it didnt dust off afer getting heated up BUT it chipped everywhere... then again i didnt scuff them or prime them at all. your gonna definitley have to do osmething about scuffing that old chrome up or they will look like shiot. they looked nice tho i gotta say that, probley paint em black again once get my sand blaster goin Quote
LiftdT4R Posted February 19, 2008 Report Posted February 19, 2008 The paint works ok. I had a buddy who did it, and there is a lot of prep work involved. I do all trail riding, so my pipes always look real nasty, real quick. The last couple sets of pipes I had, I sent out to get high temp powder coat. Works really good, holds up really well, and doesnt chip or flake. http://www.loudins.com/ is the dude I use. He's been doin my stuff since I was into Toyta trucks back when. Here's a pic of the PT mids I had done, and a set of FMFs Quote
Loki Posted February 20, 2008 Report Posted February 20, 2008 I was going to paint my pipes in high temp header paint then got put onto a guy in my area that does ceramic coating, so I'm taking the pipes over to him to do, I' up pics when they're done supposed to look pretty trick Quote
dajogejr Posted February 20, 2008 Report Posted February 20, 2008 PJ1 makes a high temp exhaust paint in a can. I don't think it matters what kind of paint you buy, sooner or later, down by the cylinders, it's gonna need to be redone. You could probably get it to last a year or so...depending on how much you ride, but...it's just not going to be as durable as a ceramic coat, chrome...etc. Quote
