I have a 392. I went from stock unported cylinders with T6 pipes to the cub and shearers so it was a night and day difference for me. Low/mid isnt any worse or better than a bolt on bike but the powerband hits really hard, which is normal for a cub from what I hear. I started with 35mm carbs on gas and recently switched to 39mm and methanol. I really like this motor a lot. I dont know what kind of riding you are doing so its hard to say how to set it up. I dont know what you are looking to hear but its a good motor in my opinion but im sure you will get a lot of people telling you get get a 4mil.

well this is for a street bike..(rz350) im in australia and rz350s were pretty common..but almost all the 350 barrels left r on the final bores and power valves are always flogged out..so i was lookin at a replacement top end..and altho street riding as far from the antics of off road banshee stuff..i still want something fun..hence the reasons for owning and riding street 2 strokes for 12 yrs..im not lookin for massive power gains a good rz makes about 60hpr..so anything around or over that figure is fine..and im lookin for more of a snap in power like the rd350lc and banshee powervalve motor is more tame..thanks for your info..

I dont know what kind of pipes and stuff are available for the street bikes but with a decent set of pipes id imagine you could get 70hp out of one with the right carbs and running pump gas. The powerband would be awesome riding on a street bike also. I have never dynod mine so I dont know what kind of hp they make.

I've got one. They hit really hard in the topend which I think would be very fun in a sportbike. They are a high 70 to low 80 hp motor with good pipes. I believe you guys have pipes that would work fine in the 194-198 degrees of exhaust duration of the cubs. Over here a new cylinder costs roughly $875 USD + $70 or so fro each piston and then you'd need a head to work with it as well. A stock head can be rechambered for about $80-100 in the US. In the 80s I had a Kawasaki 900R Ninja I thought was the baddest bike ever till I raced a guy with an RD 350 who wooped me everytime to about 100 mph. Good luck.

Ya, I'm not sure about the 396, but I have a 421 and am looking for a set of Shearer's and 38mm carbs, cuz I have 35's with T-5's now and the better pipes should wake up the motor a little...............
