Generation-X Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 Hello guys. I just got my first shee here about a week ago, and it wasnt running right when i bought it. It is backfiring out of the right side. I took the carbs apart and cleaned them up good, and it was still doing the same thing. Can yall give me some ideas on what to check out next? BTW- It is a stock 98 with K&N, the guy I bought it from said that it just had a fresh top end about 10 hrs ago. Any ideas??? Quote
TurboBanshee420 Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 When you cleaned the carbs out.... did you make sure to take out the pilot jet and blow out the circiut with compressed air. As well as check the jets for a nice clean hole when you hold them up to the light. Sounds like you might have a clogged pilot... that's all. Maybe the floats need adj. as well. Quote
00tbanshee Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 also maybe check the reeds and see if they or ok on that cylinder.what does the plug look like on that side? Quote
bansheejoel Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 if it were me i would also make sure my piolt's were clean....also make sure that your choke tube that connects the two carbs is connected mine did the same thing i pulled the carbs, cleaned them, and forgot to hook up the choke tube and she ran like shit backfiring but instead out of the left silencer Quote

I picked up some rebuild kits so i know for sure that the pilots have clean holes. also maybe check the reeds and see if they or ok on that cylinder.what does the plug look like on that side? The plug is real black on that side.. Quote
Wildcardracing Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 Check your carb sync, Make sure the slides are at the same height and that they open at exactly the same time. Quote
yamaha04 Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 put in new plugs they are cheap and you can eleminate that as a problem lot of the timesay your mixing to rich you coud have just fouled a plug. this will make a funny shooting air/ backfireing noise.. try new plugs if this helps but deao it again after a couple rides then check your carbs for sync and jetting Quote
