BigRed350x Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 oh but they said you gotta flush out your old stuff before you put it in Honestly, I'm not a big fan of the engine ice stuff. Too expensive for what you get out of it IMO. Plus if you have a leak or do end up over-heating and blow it out your overflow, then you've dumped a chunk of change all over the ground. I've always just run normal 50/50 in all my bikes and have never had a problem with it. I'd start off with just the 50/50, since its already in your system and see how it goes for you. Don't overlook your jetting just because we found your coolant problem. I'd still double check your jetting, and maybe go 1 size bigger on your main jet just for safety's sake. I've always run mine a little on the rich side and be happy that it will run a little big longer. - Jared Quote
2strokespirit Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 How hot you talking? My buddy and I ride in our dunes when its up around 110 to 120 degrees and he still has a gas engine and we've ridden for hours on end and he's never once had an overheating issue with his. I dont' worry about mine running on methanol keeps it plenty cool. To be honest, most of the time between 110 - 125 some days were up to 128!!! Just curious do you run a heat gauge? Quote

We rarely see temps that high. I can't speak for out west but here in MI highest we see at the dunes is 90-100 with alot of humidity.. Quote

Mid to end of July temps out on the dunes can hit 120's to 130's on clear days, here in the red desert. A cool day in the summer months at KP is around 95-100, and you will only get high 80's in the shade. Quote

If i have to put the temp meter in the sun I will for sure get a lot higher temp readings, I see you say high 80's in the sun, it is summer here and I have readings of up to 107.6!!! in the shade.. 714banshee380 Posted February 12, 2008 Author Report Posted February 12, 2008 I guess ill try running some 340's/350's and we'll se hwo it works out Quote
sheerider1026 Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 You dont seem to be listening! Its not a cooling problem, its your jetting!! A properly jetted bike will run all day long as hard as you want to run it in temps well over 100. I know I've had more than a few gas bikes and ride in temps over 100 all summer long. CHECK YOUR JETTING! Correct your jetting problem, them worry about getting better cooling components. he is right, a lean condition creats a lot of heat, go up 10 on your jets, so if u have 300's put some 310 or 320's in it, my last banshee had 320's in it, it ran like a raped ape and never got hot.. you are running lean my friend Quote

Snopczynski Posted February 13, 2008 Report Posted February 13, 2008 I was in glamis this past weekend and my shee started overheating due to how hot it is... The radiator startet smoking... I have already siezed it twice so i took it easy and cruised back to camp poured water all over the raidator/motor. I was just wondering if theres anyway i can make it run cooler? I have stock radiator, bored 2 sizes over stock, ported, polished, t5's, k&n air filters, stock carbs I have ridden in the dunes here in Washington and Oregon in temps about 96 degrees. But we go up tree shots where we sometimes have to back down and try to get out 3-4 times (all load, no airflow). I had my bike get to 205 degrees 1 time, and that was the hottest its ever been. I usually shut bikes off at 210 degrees. It sounds like either jetting, or a mechanical part issue like a non turning water pump gear or a bad cap. Quote
speed-racer Posted February 13, 2008 Report Posted February 13, 2008 Once you've overheated a bike with a plastic impeller your screwed. It only takes a minute to check it and the gaskets cheap. Overheating is going to cause engine failure if you let it go. I would definitely check the impeller before changing your jets. Its so easy to do and worth your time......especially if its been overheated multiple times. Running pure anitfreeze is not helping much......it is not a coolant by itself. Do you have white residue in your coolant or under the radiator cap? If so, your impeller is trash. Quote

I'm going to change the impeller anyways no questions asked and all heres a list ill do 1. stepup my main jet sizes. 2. pro design impeller/ new gaskets. 3. run engine ice. 4. take off my grill cover that blocks alot of the air for sure that will make it run cooler as everyone says Quote
BigRed350x Posted February 13, 2008 Report Posted February 13, 2008 Sounds like a plan. Quote

Following this thread the last couple of days got me.... Quote
714banshee380 Posted February 13, 2008 Author Report Posted February 13, 2008 thanks for all feedback gues but i have one more quick question.... its about filters i currently run k&n air filters .... singles (one on each carb) and this past weekend i caught an unnoticed razorback which hit my head on the bars and bottomed out and unnoticing my filter popped off and i was riding for about one whole minute before the throttle stuck due to sand in the carb which left me shitting my pants.... i was in four gear pinned when it decided to lock up. I just shut her off quicky before blowing it up but i was doing some research and i saw that UNI makes a single filter for both the carbs (the carb does not have to be a 2into1, there is two holes on the filter i figured maybe that since it's one filter it might stay on better....
