well i went ahead and split my cases to make sure there wasnt anything else to sneak up and bite me in the ass before i "cub" it, and i noticed the orings on the crank bearings were all tore up. what is the purpose of these? btw, its a hot-rods crank, and the bearings still feel great.

orings on the crank? the rubber seals on the flywheel and clutch sides? If thats what you are talking about then they need to be replaced. That is what seals your crankcase.

What size cub did you get?

the o rings on the outside of newer hot rods cranks replace the locating pins. keeping the outter bearing from spinning. if yours are tore up. i would replace them.

theres o ring kits from grainger. you can cut the size you need and use a dab of krazy glue to make the ring without stretching the shit out of it. i have done it on coolheads.

Can someone tell me whats the thickness of the o'ring, This is new to me as well and want to use this in the future, but to thick of a o'ring and the cases wont seal. Thanks

thats what my local shop told me, they arent super important. but since i am waiting to get my jugs machined i figured i'd kill some time and research what to do. i'm not gonna kill a set of cases over a 3 cent oring. i will measure them tonite and post what i find.

i would think that if the oring was too thick, the cases would still seal up, the oring would just mash flat.. not sure though. what if you said the hell with it and left the orings off?

In the past I have used some locktite or bearing locking compound on ONE casing, otherwise it is hell to split the casings, never had a problem. Just 2 - 3 drops..
