NitroTate Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 Ok guys, my shee is appart right now so I need a favor from someone who is able to do it for me... I need to know the temperature at 3 different locations on the pipes of a banshee with toomeys or similar pipes. I know there can be a wide range of different mods that might change things but I just need ballpark numbers off of someones pipes. If you have these types of pipes and no special mods like alchohol etc. and happen to have an infrared temp gun, would you crank her up and run her as hot as she typically gets when your riding pretty hard and then shoot a temp reading for me at the following three spots I would be very appreciative!! -on the pipe right at the exhaust port -on the pipe right on the biggest part of the expansion chamber -on the silencer Thank ya, thank ya Tate Quote
HotCarl Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 FYI an infrared temp guns do not read correctly on chrome or shinny surfaces. Quote
bansheeman1988 Posted January 17, 2008 Report Posted January 17, 2008 Ill do that for ya this weekend, got a temp gun too. Just wonderin what you need the temps for? Quote
NitroTate Posted January 17, 2008 Author Report Posted January 17, 2008 Ill do that for ya this weekend, got a temp gun too. Just wonderin what you need the temps for? Thanks man, just keep in mind if the pipes are shiny to move the temp gun around and kind of average it out if you cant get a good spot that is not so reflective. I am contemplating what type of PC I'm going to try on them and how it will hold up at different areas. I'm assuming the hottest part is probably going to be pretty much right at the ports and i will have to go with full blown high temp powder but wondering at what point along the pipes it tends to be cooler... Thanks! Quote
jbooker82 Posted January 18, 2008 Report Posted January 18, 2008 Shoot the Pipes and stinger tubes in High Temp and do the silencers in what ever color you like. I have my raptor's exhaust can done in black. Clean the inside out really good and shoot some high temp powder down the thoat of the pipe. That will help insulate the pipe from the hot exhaust gas so the pipe doesnt get as hot. That is a trick used with chrome to keep it from blueing. Quote
bansheeman1988 Posted January 20, 2008 Report Posted January 20, 2008 Got your pipe temps for ya bud, the temp off the manifolds is around 500 degrees, my meter said 471. The biggest part of the pipe was 167 and the silencers were near 140 at the inlet of the silencer. These temps might be off since its around 5 degrees in these parts, but i tried to rip on her as much as possible to get the higher temps. Have fun coating your pipes! Quote

Great thanks a lot man I really appreciate the help! Those temps are lower than I had expected which is good so I might just go ahead and give this idea a shot... and thank you too Jbooker82 that's a good idea about shooting the high temp inside. I plan to shoot a translucent from the silencer all the way up to just infront of the chamber where it begins to curve downward and then fade it into the high temp black the rest of the way to the motor. I think it will look pretty SICK! And if it doesn't work I'll strip them back down to chrome, no harm done... Thanks all, I'll post pics when done. Quote
