bansheeman1988 Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 just cleaned the carbs today and air box very clean like spotless and put it all back together started her up and noticed that it had no power and wouldnt idle right. I had the head off the other day cause the head stud rattled out. I checked the cylinders and they both had the cross hatch still in them and looked great. Thing is when i ran it tonight i noticed that the exhaust on the right side was just pushin out the exhaust like crazy and the left was just puffing...nothing too great but still running half ass. Im thinking head gasket since i didnt replace it the other day when i put it back together, do you think this could be the problem or am I gonna need a top end??? Getting a comp checker tomorrow and seeing whats goin on. hopefully its just the gasket, i need it by sat for racing!!!! Thanks in advance Quote
shee rips Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 as far as the head gasket, i dont think they are reusable. i dont reuse mine. sounds like your carbs are out of sync to me Quote
riderofthestorm Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 compression test and leak-down test, might have leak around the intakes/carbs/crossover tube ,, good luck Quote
Troubledsol Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 I hope you figure it out a friend and are both having the same issue we have checked everything A local shop says he thinks I may have a twisted crank Good Luck keep us posted Quote
dajogejr Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 Compression test as said, switch the coil wires for the hell of it and see if the problem follows to the other side. Quote
bansheeman1988 Posted January 10, 2008 Author Report Posted January 10, 2008 alright ill do a few checks today and make sure the reed cages are all tight and crossover tube is good and sealed up. Maybe squirt some soap and water over the head and check for leaks there also. I hope its not the top end, I just rebuilt it like 3 months ago and have maybe only put 15 hours on it tops!! thanks guys! Quote
dajogejr Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 Get carb cleaner, start the bike...and spray it around the intakes, head, and base gaskets. If the motor wants to die out....you found your leak. Check your plugs, see if they look/smell like they have coolant on them...as well. You shouldn't reuse head gaskets, but...if you were in a real tight pinch.... Quote
bansheeman1988 Posted January 10, 2008 Author Report Posted January 10, 2008 allright ill do that today after school got some in the garage and sounds easy to do. yeah ill buy a new head gasket too. thanks dajogejr! Quote
bansheeman1988 Posted January 10, 2008 Author Report Posted January 10, 2008 took a comp test today and both measured 110psi cold engine so i am assuming the rings are good and base gaskets so im going to buy a head gasket tomm. Quote
bansheeman1988 Posted January 12, 2008 Author Report Posted January 12, 2008 Okay so now it runs when you keep on the gas but it doesnt idle at all no matter how much you turn up the idle screws. Plus sometimes when you come to a stop and pull in the clutch, the engine keeps revving and doesnt wind down as fast as it should?? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Quote
