fitz18 Posted December 13, 2007 Report Posted December 13, 2007 Hi all, the title pretty much says it all. My bike has been runnig crap at low rpm. The long tube at the bottom of carb bowls leaks only when im riding. Ive had the carbs apart and cleaned them all down but I didnt check my float height. Does my float height affect this tube?? My main is 240 and is a nice tan colour. My needle is on 2nd clip from pointy end but im gona move it to 3rd. does this lean it or make it rich?? Air screw is 1.5 out. Bike is unreal at top end. Pulls like a shee should but bottom end is really bogging. I have to give it loads of juice. I have no leaks so i just need to stop them tubes at the bottom of carbs leaking. HELP ME PLEASE!!! Quote
dajogejr Posted December 13, 2007 Report Posted December 13, 2007 . Does my float height affect this tube?? No. This is the drain tube for the carb bowls. Remove the screw on the bottom, clean that all out. I think there is a rubber oring on that drain screw...clean that passage out with solvent and compressed air, tighten it back down. Probably got dirt in there, or the oring is worn/torn... As far as it running like crap, it's probably either a clogged up pilot or misadjusted air screw... Quote

Im hoping changing the needle to the 3rd clip will fix my bottom end. Quote
shanYE west Posted December 13, 2007 Report Posted December 13, 2007 It's also your overflow drain. Clean your needle and seat assm. Quote
dajogejr Posted December 13, 2007 Report Posted December 13, 2007 It's also your overflow drain. Clean your needle and seat assm. I don't think so on stock carbs, Shane. One bowl has a tube (for the choke/fuel enrichment circuit) the other doesn't have a tube at all. I'm pretty sure (not positive) the only overflow tubes on stock carbs are the ones on the body on either side of the carb. On other carbs (say....PWK series) they're overflow. You snap that overflow tube off and run your power jets off them for us alky boys.... Quote
fitz18 Posted December 13, 2007 Author Report Posted December 13, 2007 Another question guys. I dont need my choke to start the bike so does that mean its rich, lean or has an air leak?? Or is it ok not to need the choke?? Really gettin pissed off. Want to get this baby running right. Quote

Two smaller on the sides and one larger out the back where it will overflow if your floats get hung up. Quote

Not saying you're wrong, but I'm 99% certain only one of the stock carb float bowls has that tube.... I tried looking up on Riva Yamaha Parts fiche, they only show one carb view exploded... If you don't need to start your bike dead cold with the choke, it's rich on the bottom. Once it's warmed up...you shouldn't need your choke. Or...if it's very, VERY warm out, you may not need the choke on a dead cold motor. Try turning each air screw all the way in, till they're lightly seated, count the turns. Then turn each one out 1 full turn farther than they were in the first place. See if this helps. If you have to turn the air screws farther than 2.5 turns out to get it to run right at low RPM, normally that means smaller pilots. But stock 25 pilots are the smallest they have, I'd bet you just need to turn the air screws out... IN addition, as said...check the float level. Make sure the needle and seat in the carb are clean, too. I've seen the rubber tip on some needles have a ring worn in it from normal age/wear/tear and replacing it made the needle/seat seal properly again.... Quote

Adjusted the floats and all is well now. Quote
2strokespirit Posted December 15, 2007 Report Posted December 15, 2007 (edited) On the stock carbs the lower 2 tubes are the overflows, yes your float hight is incorrect OR maybe your needle and seat needs replacing or its dirty Its flooding because the needle and seats are not sealing... Thats way its bogging at low rpm. Edited December 15, 2007 by 2strokespirit Quote
2strokespirit Posted December 15, 2007 Report Posted December 15, 2007 The stock carbs has both 3 tubes, 2 on the sides and one at the bottem. Quote
fitz18 Posted December 17, 2007 Author Report Posted December 17, 2007 Right guys im really really pissed off. Ive cleaned both carbs twice and cleaned the needle and seats. Both are fine and the rubber o rings are perfect. I took the bike out for a rip and its pulling real strong but the two long tubes at the bottom of the carbs are still leaking when im riding. WHen i stop the bike or when it is just idling they dont leak at all. The bogging is not as bad but its still not perfect. pleases someone help me. My floats are both just as clymers specs. PLEASE SOMEONE...........................ANYONE!!! Quote
blueshee03 Posted December 17, 2007 Report Posted December 17, 2007 do you have the bowls on right and not switched from carb to carb? i'm pretty sure the bowls on stock carbs are made for left and right and it will make a difference.you might try switching just the float bowls around. Quote
