Is there any way around buying a puller to remove the flywheel?

Yes, ai three jaw. Then buy a new flywheel. YOu will have to have the inside puller to keep from damaging the wheel.

nevermind, for whatever reason i had one in my garage in a bucket of tools. I guess it fits something else but it worked just like the yamaha tool!

that yamaha flywheel puller is a fairly common puller i believe. i used it on my old honda cr500 engine one time. worked exactly the same.

While we're on the subject, in the Clymers, it says to use a flywheel holder. Can I use a strap type, oil filter remover with a friend holding it? If not where's a good place to get one? Thanks guys.

ive never used any type of strap on mine. just put the puller in, and impact off. simple as that.

Yep...ditto.

Had to weld that puller on two flywheels to get them off though....sucks when you lose a 10 dollar tool AND flywheel all in one shot...

i had to do the weld-the-puller bullshit too except it took 2 pullers. the first one stripped out inside so i had to cut the bitch off and buy a brand new one just to weld it on to the flywheel :banghead:

I think I've junked about 7 of them pullers now.. Damn threads are weaker then shit and pull right out. But then again my boss is cheap and always gave us the emgo's or somthing like that.. I can't remember the name off hand.
