I have a 1994 Banshee and I've been running regular farm gas (~87 octane) Should I be running premium (91 octane) or is regular fine for a completely stock banshee? Will there be a power difference or something if I were to run a higher octane fuel?

I run 93 Sunoco thats the best in the area. i have a friend that worked for them and he once told me that when they would grade the gas he noticed the 93 was was a low of 93 the highest was 97 but still rated 93. in my opinion i would go with the highest you can get thats every day pump gas from Sunoco.

The best premium around here would be Shell V-Power I guess. I can't afford to run racing fuel. If I were to run 91 octane would I notice anythign in the performance of my banshee? The previous post says that it doesnt matter what grade I run.

i`m sure there would be a performance gain but it would be so little that you wouldnt notice. i would run the 91 but if its about the $$$ then run 87.

Man Ide never put 87 in any of my toys. The Banshee calls for preium pump fuel says so rite in the owners book and you would actualy notice a diffrence. Put some 91-93 octane in and open it up ona long strech it will be noticable. I understand not wanting to use race fuel Im around 160 psi in each cylinder and Im going to mix 110-93 50/50 mabey a little more 110 to 1 of 93. 3 5 gal gas tanks 1 full of 110 one full of 93 and one to mix the two. but useing 87 is disrespectfull to the SHEE.

If your jetting is spot on, you probably aren't hurting anything running 87 octane unless you are at wide open throttle most of the time (open trails or dune riding)...

Me...personally, I'd run premium to be on the safe side. It's more resistant to detonation...which, if it happens...will destroy your motor before too long.

You probably won't notice a performance gain...unless it's detonating now and you just don't know it....

I can afford to run pump premium if it's gonna save me money in the long run. Race fuel is just about double the price though and for the amount of riding I do that could ad up quickly. I'm gonna try some premium tonight and see if I notice anything at all.

Could somebody explain to me what detonation is? It sounds bad but I'm not sure exactly what it is.

detonation (pre ignition) happens when the fuel mixture ignites before its supposed to in the combustion chamber and it will destroy a motor fast. the lower the fuel octane is the more volatile the mixture is and more likely to detonate

Higher octane fuel will not increase HP.. By using high octane fuels it allows you to furtrher advance your timing and run higher compression thus giving you more HP.. But by itself it will not increase HP..

When my motor was stock I ran premium... its only what... $1 more for 5 gallons?? better safe then sorry.
